I bought the i9-9900K for $350. I'll rebuild in a couple years.

sounds like it should be a pretty good CPU. Sometimes it's better to go with what will get the job done for a CPU since in a lot of ways it seems like games are kind of limited a lot by the consoles. Right now though with the PS5 getting a pro model it's hard to say how that might impact the need for more powerful hardware but it's hard to see that CPU having trouble keeping up with anything that the current generation of consoles would be able to do and doing a better job at it.

While do some OC research for the 9900K, it seems like a very silly upgrade from the i7 8700K.

Its done and on its way so ill just see how high I can get it, maybe 5.2?

Depending on your budget, usually, newer gen is always better, even if it's a step or two below the "rating" level the old ones.

Could grab a 12700KF for $200 and then you just need to worry about a motherboard: https://www.newegg.com/in...ssor/p/N82E16819118345

Given your current hardware and the desire for a CPU that will last for the next 4 years, here are a few recommendations:
  • AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D: This is one of the most powerful CPUs available right now, with 16 cores and 32 threads. It offers excellent performance and should be more than capable of handling future games and applications.
  • Intel Core i9-13900K: Intel's flagship CPU, with 24 cores and 32 threads. It provides top-tier performance and should also serve you well for the next few years.
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D: If you're looking for something slightly more affordable but still very powerful, this is a great option. It offers 8 cores and 16 threads, and it's known for its excellent gaming performance.
  • Intel Core i7-14700K: Another strong contender, with 20 cores and 28 threads. It offers great performance and should be a good match for your current setup.
Any of these CPUs should keep your system competitive for the next few years. Do you have a preference for AMD or Intel, or are you open to either?
