The Apex does 8000mhz xmp easily if you follow their supported ram list, it will also do 8200-8400mhz very easy with minimal tweaking probably more with 14th gen and the Apex Gen2 board.

Yep it will do 8000mhz+. There is a YouTuber Tech Reviewer who charges $600 a consult to tweak and make recommendations to your machine, has a building service a set amount of $$$ plus parts etc. He takes zero money from anyone when he does his reviews too, and TRUST me is he harsh! He STRONGLEY recommends the Apex Encore, which only has 2 ram slots, which makes it easier for any board to achieve the 8000mhz+ plus it does. He has totally TRASHED the other Asus boards too... By the way, Asrock the Nova CLAIMS it will do 8000mhz  ram too, which said YouTuber is going to put to the test... Either way I am happy as I said, $279 vs. $649 I would EXPECT the Asus Apex Encore to do to better!!! I just hope that you won't have EVER have to use Asus Tech/Warranty Support...

why not swap motherboards, get an Msi, Asus, Gigabyte, Asrock .......................... ffs

A lot of people paid $700 for the board and you asking them to swap it? Maybe you should ask eVGA and their CEO to show some decency. It is amazing how people let companies like eVGA slide away with BS.

I was lucky enough to be able to return my Classified for a refund. It was CLEARLY a better board in certain areas than the Asrock NOVA. However, I do expect that Asrock will be able to support my midrange board with BIOS updates etc. vs. no guaranteed updates from Evga.
I really feel for anyone that paid $700 for a board that may OR MAY NOT have full technical bios updates as needed. It's NOT easy to switch after a LARGE investment...

Just switched to 14900KF + APEX ENCORE last week and the result was impressive. With same memory sticks I can easily go 8400mhz and pass many diff stress tests. With Z790 Dark it is quite unstable at 8000mhz and I have to tune ODT manually but it can't go perfect still. Perhaps it is CPU IMC issue, the training result of voltage and timing from APEX is still much better than Dark IMO.

We all know that Z790 Dark is not that good on memory overclocking compare with Apex Gen1 from many results on web. Hardware design issue cannot be solved but BIOS can definitely be improved. As a overclocking purpose board, no BIOS update since a beta version at May is really disappointed. First time and last time to try EVGA board. And maybe no chance to try at future.

Yeah the gen II z790 boards have some advanced features to the cpu and ram. The board you bought is holding world records makes OCing to managing the system a breeze. The Kingpin Z790 will never be able to do what the gen II z790 boards can do. The board you got though is insane. That is what some here are not considering, you will get what you paid for on a z790 gen II.
