It really is hard choosing another board...

It's pretty easy, Shamino who made EVGA's motherboards amazing that Andrew Han chased away by pissing him off for a fault he brought to Andrew Hans attention that Andrew said ship anyways then snapped on him.... Well Shamino went to ASUS and its how their motherboards became so amazing all of a sudden. Well ASUS has gotten Shamino out of retirement and hes back at ASUS. So there you have it. Want a pure OCers board? Get the new ASUS Gen II Apex z790.

Good info, thanks! I believe Shamino was responsible for EVGA's X58 motherboards - one of the most solid platforms from EVGA imho. I remember when he left because of Andrew. Wow that CEO must be a real jerk.

I follow Buildzoid (Actually Hardcore overclocking), and his feelings are very plain. Do not overpay for a MB. I didn't pay anywhere near $649 (price of the Asus APEX on Newegg currently) for my 790Z Classified and usually don't pay over $400 for any MB, it's usually a bit less. I paid like $465 for the Classified as an exception to the rule as I had Amazon Credit card points. I am not a pure over clocker either, I do okay for a bit of OCing and I like my stable rig. I also have had Asus MBs and other Asus products and most have had issues within their warranty period, and it was h@ll on earth getting Asus to honor warranties and even get good tech support! Maybe that has changed but I had one their upper end routers die in 6 months about a year or 2 ago and it was a HUGE hassle even with the receipt and registering it. They make great stuff when it works, just like most MB makers. Evga USE to be special with their tech support, warranty service and quality products. Unfortunately, those days are a by gone era.

For anyone interested, I bought a combo package of $838 for the Asrock Nova and the Intel 14900K from Microcenter matching Newegg. Is the Asrock Nova a super world beater? WcfTech says its a good value! I have never bought a TOTL MB or CPU in recent memory.
I am aware of the Nova's Bios limitations, and I can live with them. I am sure the Asus Z790 APEX II is an amazing MB but I paid around $250 for the Nova, is the APEX over 2.5x better? Maybe to a PURE overclocker, which I am not. I just want a stable FAST running rig, I am NOT going to break any world records! Just my thoughts and I am not trying to upset anyone. The APEX II looks like an amazing MB, it just isn't for me. I truly do wish I could have kept my Z790 Classified knowing 100% it would get updates etc. but I am not that trusting a guy these days...

I would still rather have a board designed & supported by Shamino. That is just me, if you are not a pure overclocker, go with a Rog Strix Z790-E or a TUF Z790 DDR5 if you want budget.  Not crazy about ASRock boards.

Asus boards except Z790 Apex are underwhelming and suffering from various problems
even Z690 APEX was defective crap designed by Shamino, Asus scammed a lot of people with this board and quickly EOL them
they didn't inform customers, they didn't apologize, they just kept quiet

Like EVGA is quiet now and just waiting for this "BIOS support for 14th gen" noise to pass :)

EVGA is dead while Asus is alive and still selling defective motherboards
two big differences

Did some Cinebench testing. Interestingly enough, getting quite a bit lower on the scores. Max was around 2000 on 24 and near 36000 on r23.
On an 5.6 All core OC and PL1/PL2 at 360 watts.

Asrock Taichi Boards are VERY well regarded. Look no one makes the perfect board, I bought the warranty from Microcenter, and they are really nice about honoring things. I can only hope the Nova is a good board. It has good reviews so far, it's got a ton of nice
features, perfect it's not. This will be the first time I haven't used an EVGA MB since BEFORE my Evga X58 FTW board way back in the day. I have used several Tyan and Supermicro server boards and NEVER had a problem. I've built Asrock MB systems for a few
people and NEVER had any issues, who knows I may be the first, thought I hope not! I guess I will know soon enough, I just have to stop working so many hours...

That was due to a manufacturing defect someone not setting up the assembly line correctly If I remember correctly a chip that was put on wrong that was not Shamino FYI, that was someone at the plant not double checking, a lot of products had manufacturing issues that year, Gigabyte psu's, motherboards with cheap capacitors/resistors, bad vram to bad vram install on 30 series cards, auto manufacturers screwing the pooch on quality.
z790 boards are rock solid, their gen II z790 boards have been rock solid and one has the world records right now. So I would say Shamino is doing a great job.
