Wow. Just upgraded my build and I'm running fully on SSD's for the first time.
There's a lot to be said about performance, but the most striking improvement has been the lack of noise.
No more clickity-clack hard drive noise. Especially since I was previously only on 16GB of RAM so my Page File was getting a real workout.

I've been on PC's since the 80's and HDD noise has always just been there. Background noise if you will. And now that's it's gone, it's really weird.

But maybe it's just because I'm old. Even today, if I get into a car with keys in my hand, I'm reaching for the steering column.

It is nice not hearing all the HDD noise.  I quit using HDD's about 5 years ago now.  Can't even remember how bad it actually was.

The only HDD I'd ever have is an external.

I made the switch to SSD since the price of 2TB drives has fallen a lot. Recently I replaced my external drive with a Samsung T7. I like that it can hold up to being banged up since my backup drive is one of those things I would grab if an emergency happened and I was able to grab things before I had to leave.

I have only been using M.2 SSDs for about 3 years now.

I have 3 2.5" SSD's and 4 NVMe drives.

It's nice.

The only HDD I have is an external 8TB ...and it doesn't get used unless I need something off of it.

If your running your case fans fast enough, you'll never hear mechanical drives, unless there are about to fil

It is also a bonus, that you save some energy & make less heat with the move to SSD
Enjoy the new found performance & reduced noise

A world of difference in performance between mechanical and NVMe drives. Stopped using mechanical drives on my own rig years back. Now it's m.2 primary and secondary drives, and then a couple of 2.5" SSD in RAID 1 for data.

By that logic I would never hear my wife complain if I just talk to her at Metalica concerts.

no mo defraging!!!

but it's also great finding a sale on two 10+ TB mechanical HDDs for long term backup. i have two 10 TB Seagates (ST10000DM0004) in my external DAS (Sabrent DS-SC5B). And use "Allway Sync" to simultaneously backup Directory(s) to both drives.

(See below how one folder on "M:" is copied to both "O:" and "P:" locations?)
