The 13900 reviews are coming out - it's a bit of a beast! Damn thing runs hot as hell though, although that's hardly surprising with 300W boost (or maybe 350W?). That's not going to make the green agenda people very happy! AiO with a 360 radiator is possibly minimum cooling if you plan to regularly use the potential of this CPU (like with rendering). Probably will scream on LN2, going to be interesting for sure.
I may just stick with the 12900K for now though.
I had a pre-order in with a company that said they expected them to ship today. Today they said "no it's not shipping today and we have no idea when it will"....so that has been cancelled and I ordered from someone cheaper.
Honestly, looking at power draw and heat, this reminds me of 11900k. The big difference is that intel expected people to OC the 11900k to get the most out of it (I mean...they called it "Rocket Lake" lol). That thing drew 330W for me if I let it. Before I had a 3080ti, my 420mm rad kept up with it fine, too. I had to drop it down a bit on the all-core with the 3080ti.
So I'm thinking I have a pretty good idea what will be required and I'm good with it
I don't think I saw much over 275W or so on my 11900k, and although it would do 5.3GHz on all cores no problem, it wouldn't do 5.4, it was weird like that. Temps were ok with a 3090 on the same loop, using 2x 360mm 30mm radiators.
4000 series and 13900K on a loop.. going to need some hefty cooling. Both are rated for fairly high temps though, so no big deal, just a matter of getting used to seeing higher temps and viewing them as the new normal. :)
I'm holding off on 4k-Nvidia for now. I know the gains are huge, but so is the price tag and I couldn't fit one in my case right now if I wanted to. I'd have to wait for some pre-blocked versions to come out as I want a warranty and EVGA is out of the game. With all that known, I have no problem waiting to see what RDNA3 does. I'm thinking next time I upgrade my GPU, I'm going to want a new power supply anyway and if I'm doing all that, I figure I'll probably just go with a new case setup and get a MO-RA3 to go with the whole thing.
Knowing all that...I'm looking at 13th gen as a way to prolong this current build as far as possible. It fits in my z690 board so it's a minimal cost upgrade and lets me have fun with some new hardware. Of course, I could get a pre-blocked GPU at some point, add a 280mm rad to my current loop and probably make it all work fine, but the idea of a fresh start with a MO-RA3 and all new parts is pretty exciting...and I'm willing to sit on that idea for a couple more years to see what 14th gen and maybe even 15th gen do (as well as AMD's new stuff!)...I no longer have favorites or brand-preferences for any of it with all the competition now and my GPU brand of choice deciding to ride off into the sunset.
