I'm absolutely gobsmacked and sadden by this news.
Been a long time consumer to the #1 GPU retailer of the North American Continent and to many around the world with world class customer service along with their current and former programs.
Being around for so long I recall when Nvidia came hammering on EVGA about pushing their GPUs beyond what they should be doing and than forcing them to stop selling the EVGA's EVBot (OCing tool for your GPU on the fly) several years back.
I never thought anything of it as just a silly bump on the road but fast forward a few years later, these last few years have been tough for everyone and many companies but it seems Nvidia's explosive sales and massive shipments to mining firms only strengthened and expanded their ultra ego and greed. They must've left EVGA to fend for themselves and figure it out on their own while on a tight leash.
No one will ever know what really went down behind the scenes but if a statement or a 'leak' to explain what went on would calm the rumors and emotions so we can all grieve and move on.
Absolute devistated.
RIP EVGA GPUs!
On the flip side, what does this mean for Nvidia? What were the sales EVGA MADE for Nvidia? It's going to be a huge BLOW to them. Oh that's right, Nvidia got into selling gaming GPUs, basically flipping the bird to the AIBs. I always felt that this day might come because they basically don't need them anymore if they're selling direct to the consumer via gaming GPUs.
Didn't Nvidia panic and preorder a boat load of silicon from TSMC for the 4000 series with the whole chip shortage frenzy, expecting a future rush and than backstep to reduce their orders only to be declined by TSMC when the crypto winter arrived?
If there's a meteor out there, now would be a good time.
EDIT: After watching the tech jeebus video, I also have this to add.
Either Nvidia apologizes and changes it's toxic policies against AIBs and gives them a heads up and more freedoms or (hopeful) they join Intel GPUs but after watching the tech jeebus video, it sounds like the EVGA CEO is definitely done with GPU manufacturing.
What's even more bothersome is the possible downfall this decision may caused because most people come here to purchase a GPU and think secondly that they need a PSU to power said GPU and whatever else they may need. EVGA's CEO is going based on the other component sales and not realize it was the GPUs that helped those sales happen. My point is, consumers always thought EVGA as a GPU powerhouse and with that ingredient gone, I don't think they can survive because no one sees EVGA as a PSU or keyboard/mouse company.
I really don't think EVGA's CEO thought this through or might have health issues or what have you. I'm starting to think this decision might have killed the company.
