I am having an interesting issue with my 10900k on a z590 ftw build. Using Crucial Ballistics Max kits at 4000mhz 18-19-19 XMP1 run fine with anything i throw at it. But i cant seem to find any combination of dram voltage, vccio, SA, or other voltages that let me run the ram tighter or faster. Even 1.5v dram voltage i get a post loop dropping any of the primary timings 1 number, or raising the clock speeds to anything between 4000 and 4400mhz (the upper limit for 10th gen ive heard) Im i just at the limit of what the IMC can handle or is has anyone seen faster / lower latency (currently around 46ns)  settings?

Probably imc limit.

Thats my worry. Ive never seen a system not have ANY room off of XMP before though so i wanted to ask around since this is my only 10th gen intel sample.

you are setting gear 2 right?

So im NOT... because i dont have the option. AFAIK the gear setting is an 11th gen item? So in essence the 10th gens are stuck in gear 1, thus i might be at the limit of the IMC, atleast on this cooling solution.

I found it odd that i couldn't get it to stabilize at the  3600-CL16-18-18-3 timings of the much cheaper non MAX kits as well.  updated bios does not seem to have done anything on this issue.

Somewhat related, but I am running two kits of the 2x8 Ballistix Max 4000 dimms @ 4000mhz w/timings of 16-19-19-39, 1.5v, 1.25v sa,vccio. z590 aorus ultra auto's everything else. Can't lower tRFC or other secondary timings with errors. I notice that the sa and dimm voltage will jump up under heavy load to 1.51 vdimm and 1.271 sa. Gigabyte's override voltage setting is a mystery too me, and I have spent at least 2 days of screwing around with numerous voltages and dimm configs. Off topic, but 4 dimms and I hit 98c+ on2 cores, but 70c when only using 2 dimms running linpack. I hate to imagine what dual rank kits would do!

Even with modest OC make sure you run them through memtest86. No point in OC if it's producing bit errors. Afaik the dram chips aren't rated as high as they are sold as.

I don't know if it is ALL 590s or just the EVGA 590s..... but this is the most finicky motherboard I have ever owned regarding RAM.   When all is said and done it runs great, but the journey to get there is no small feat.

It runs great at the XMP settings but i know there's a little bit more latency left on the table, I guess its time to see if  the Dark is actually a better board for ram or if im just hitting IMC limitations on the older 10th generation chip.
