Lotta dumb boomer responses in here. It has ZERO to do with political correctness, "woke" culture, trans rights, or any of that other crap you losers are posting about. It comes down to the availability and teachability of knowledge to be disseminated to the next generation.

Kids don't know about how computers work these days because there's no desire to know; until it breaks; most parents (you know, your generation) would rather just replace said broken item rather than repair it and teach them something about how it's done.

Just like how most didn't know how tapes or CDs worked in generations prior...
If there's enough desire to know, and enough tax revenue to fully fund schools these days, there'd be courses offering electrical engineering, programming, and computer science. So unless they actively seek out the answers to these things, there's very little resources available in the way of formal education to them.

Again, this is not a failure of their generation as it is as much as it is for the generations prior who continue to take away said resources and school programs through cutting funding and taxes.

Nice rant... I doubt many (if any) people on this thread are boomers, but awesome plan calling everyone boomers and losers right off the bat, that's a great way to win friends and influence people, lol. To the point; the OP was talking about the most basic of operations - the directory / folder file system - not how to build a computer from a pile of raw materials. Lacking knowledge to the level you don't even know what a folder is equates to not knowing what a chapter is in a book. That is not an issue of availability or teachability or lack of resources or desire, that is nothing but willful ignorance. Schools not teaching even the most basic level like a file structure is a huge problem since some degree of computer literacy is a requirement to almost every job except maybe digging ditches and stocking shelves. If you think lack of even the most basic level of understanding of computers such as a computer file system or even a folder is acceptable, you might want to rethink your post and who you are calling losers.

^Maybe they were having a bad day.

The education system in some areas is subpar.  Throwing more money at a deficient system usually doesn't solve the base problems.

I live in NYC and have a kid in the public school system. It's pretty bad. Maybe less time spent teaching young kids what anal sex is and that if they have white skin they are racist oppressors, and instead spend more time learning basic things like what a folder is in a computer system might prepare them better for life. Money has no bearing on that level of teaching. They can learn about sex and how racist they are when they are older - like over 12 at least.
