I have same set up did that new power supply work?

In case you are asking me, so far my old PC Power & Cooling 850W power supply is holding strong. Updated my first post to reflect this. I'll be sure to update it again if I do ever run into another random power-off.

Are the issues mostly with the 850W GA? Are 3080FTWs working ok with G3s?

I just made a new post for this. I have 850GA shutting down with Strix 3090. EVGA is replacing with 1000w G+ psu. Barely got the sentence out when CS rep heard the 3090 and said, yeah we are gonna have to replace that psu.

I too had the exact same issue....recently built a new computer with the new Ryzen 7 5800x (couldn't get my hands on the 5900x). I was originally using a RTX 2080, but the other day, I happen to be at Micro Center purchasing some fans and the graphics card Gods shined down on me and I walked out of there with a Asus ROG Strix RTX 3090 OC. After I first installed it, I kept experiencing random shut downs with no attempt to reboot. After the usual troubleshooting, I turned to the web to see if anyone else had a similiar issues. I saw a few post like this, so I decided to replace my EVGA 850w GA with a EVGA 850w G+ that I happen to have in my son's computer. No more shutdowns!!!!

Just to add to this, I had a 850 GA as well paired with a 3080 FE. I got shutdowns at first only when I tried overclocking, but then when I tried playing FFXV at 4k max even at stock my PC would shut down. Tried exchanging with the EVGA 1000w Q one, but that had a huge amount of coil whine. Ended up going with a corsair one in the end and 0 issues.

So are the 850 GA power supplies defective when it comes to pumping out enough wattage over the PCIe power cables?

It's not the wattage. I'm using an Asus Thor 850w psu while I'm waiting for the replacement psu. EVGA is sending me a 1000w G3. So I got a pretty good upgrade from the 850 GA.

Do we have any consensus that this is a problem with pairing a GA PSU unit with a 3080 card yet?
My PC parts are about to arrive and would like to know if I need to return my Supernova 750w GA.
I cannot, unfortunately, chance on testing if this issue exists because the place I purchased from doesn't allow returns if their product is opened.
