Read through all of these, throwing in my $.02 since most said RM850x should be good to go. Not the case if refurb'd, I think.

Got my 3080 FTW3 Ultra AND a refurb'd RM850x on the same day. Installed, everything ran fine for 6-7 hours. Next day, random PC shutdowns and PSU trips (have to flip the switch off and on to reboot). I'm pretty sure it's the PSU since it's refurb'd, but not 100% sure until I replace it and run it. CPU and GPU temps run 60's when playing COD.

DDU'd the drivers, reseated the GPU as well as the 4 sticks of 8gb ram (1 first, then the other 3 after reinstall drivers and reboot)

Specs:
MSI MAG x570 Tomahawk
Ryzen 7 3700X
3080 FTW3 Ultra
Crucial Ballistix 32gb 4x8 PC3600
Corsair RM850x (refurb'd)

No OC'ing (first PC built since '05), not even playing any games and it will shut down.

If not the PSU, what else could it be?

Well I hope its just because its a refurb because I have that exact PSU.  I just bought it like 2 months ago.  Mine is brand new though not a refurb.  I will be so pissed if it doesn't work when I eventually get my 3080.

What do you plan on replacing it with?

Well good luck hope you get it figured out.

Just thought to replace my white modcables with the stock cables, could be those too but we'll see. I'm not sure what I'm going to go with, I'll see what they have in the store tomorrow. I know they have some RM850's (non x) so I might grab that if they don't have a 1000 watt.

Everyone I asked said the stock cables just provide better ripple protection because of the built in Caps.  They also said it wouldn't be a big enough difference to worry about but who knows with the 3080s.  These cards are starting to look pretty picky about their PSUs.

Update: replaced psu with a seasonic 850w titanium. Running a solid 2 hours now, Ran prime95 and Heaven, also played some COD. no issue so far.

Have you tried overclocking it with the new PSU.  I have a brand new Seasonic Platinum Prime 850TX and am contemplating bumping that up to a Seasonic Prime 1000TX.  Not planning to be very aggressive on OC, but plan to try a modest OC.  Would appreciate any thoughts you might have on whether I need to upgrade to the 1000.

A shut off/restart indicates that the power supply can't handle it, or the video card is being pushed too high (usually overclocking - I've actually had this happen on my 3090 FTW3).

Test in another computer (friends/repair shop), test a different power supply.

If you cannot do either, RMA the card. If the problems persist, RMA the power supply.

This could potentially also be an issue with PSU cable extensions. I recently had an issues where the PCIE 8pin and 6pin extension cables going to my RTX2080 where causing the card to crash. System wouldn't dump, the GPU dumped and lose signal.

This could also be the motherboard VRM's going bad. In your case I highly doubt it though since your system isn't very old. I've seen this happen before on older MBs.

I would Chalk this up to either the PSU cable extensions (if in use) or the PSU itself.

I had loads of problems using that Corsair memory in my rog z370. I would get random lock ups which led to a reset. At the time I thought it was related to my 2080ti FE.

Since moving over to patriot viper, 2 X 16gig it's been rock solid.

Are you connected to a UPS? check your UPS wattage output if you have one, I was also having this issue, but now I JUST PLUGGED TO SURGE INSTEAD OF BATTERY

I just bought a EVGA GA 850w PSU just over a month ago and hearing that it's having issues with a 3080 has me concerned. Like, am I screwed? I can't return it. I don't have a 3080 yet, but once I do, what am I supposed to do if I get random restarts? Just chalk it up as a loss? That seems preposterous for a product I paid over $200 CAD for and is less than 2 months old.

Well, that PSU has no professional teardown/testing reviews yet.

Some PSUs handle transient power spikes better than others, the GA is just one that doesn't.

Always best to research a PSU before buying it, no professional reviews, just plain don't buy it.

I don't care what it is or what company made it or sells it.

If you do get a 3080 and the PSU does shut down the GA will still be in warranty.

Which processor do you have. I think if you have a i7, recommended is 750W. i9 is 850W. I dont know about AMD processors though. I had the same make/model as you *EDIT* I had a 750W. I bought a Corsair RM1000X and all my problems disappeared.

EVGA 750GA All 3 separate cables.

This might be your problem? My 3090 FTW3 Ultra is currently pulling 486w playing RDR2. I haven't measured total system draw yet but it has to be well over 800w with my 9900k and other misc devices.

Your system draw might be spiking closer to that PSUs limit than it likes.

About 700W gaming load maybe total from the PSU to the system.

Max total system would be around 750W.

That's not including power spikes.
