how do you guys feel about having backplate waterblocks becoming a mandatory part of the watercooling kit of 3090?

this person here reported the backplate temps @ 38~40c during gaming using Alphacool D-RAM block , i think for a top of the line gpu like FTW ULTRA/KP this should be included as part of the HC block

This is part of the reason I skipped the 3090 (aside from cost) is because I worried about the GDDR6x modules on the back and we already know they run quite hot. So I looked around at different block designs and none of them really addressed active cooling on the backside, they just offered at best a heatpipe for the back plate. I think active cooling would be the way to go for 3090s but you have to consider the amount of people who own a 3090 vs those who actively WC one are such a tiny subset of the market that it probably wouldn't be worth anyone's time to design and market such a block.

hence why we need a new universal block

Do you know if the dram block comes with those screws he used already included? I’m going to do the exact same thing to my GPU.

The backplate on the kingpin feels like plastic.
