It might contribute to some issues, but clearly 6 SP Caps doesn't just brick every card that goes over 2 GHz because Steve from GamersNexus overclocked a 3080 FTW with 6 SP Caps to +250 MHz core +1000 MHz memory.  Anything that might cause stability issues at 2 GHz would likely not work at all at 2.3 GHz

Hmm, I was wondering why EVGA added the FTW3 Ultra to the Step Up program first. I figured is was to offload all the "Red Accent" models. Perhaps was I wrong it was actually to offload all the 6 POSCAP models? lol

Did you read EVGA's statement??? No retail customer boards were shipped with 6 cheaper caps, those only went to reviewers, who are getting replacement boards.

Been very impressed with EVGA's communication the past week. Everybody else has shutdown and Jacob has been great at communicating with everybody.

100% agreed.  Watching them navigate through this has made me determined to move more of my rig to EVGA products.

I agree too ! I mean, I already moved to EVGA GPUs 3 and half years ago and also will consider other ones. But the way they thrive through each " hardship " ou issue makes me love them more and more each time. Hearing feedback, reacting in accordance, and communicating to us... +1000 for EVGA.

Hi all,

Recently there has been some discussion about the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 series.

During our mass production QC testing we discovered a full 6 POSCAPs solution cannot pass the real world applications testing. It took almost a week of R&D effort to find the cause and reduce the POSCAPs to 4 and add 20 MLCC caps prior to shipping production boards, this is why the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 series was delayed at launch. There were no 6 POSCAP production EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 boards shipped.

But, due to the time crunch, some of the reviewers were sent a pre-production version with 6 POSCAP’s, we are working with those reviewers directly to replace their boards with production versions.
EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 series with 5 POSCAPs + 10 MLCC solution is matched with the XC3 spec without issues.

Also note that we have updated the product pictures at EVGA.com to reflect the production components that shipped to gamers and enthusiasts since day 1 of product launch.
Once you receive the card you can compare for yourself, EVGA stands behind its products!

Thanks
EVGA

A big thank you for this information update!!  Two things, if I may: Please get Newegg (and anyone else) to update EVGA product photos because they still show 6-poscap designs on literally all EVGA 3080+3090 cards.

Second thing, I have been unable to load evga.com since launch. It is HTTP 502 and has never loaded even once, not a single time from my desktop nor phone. I don't understand how others are able to access the product pages or other parts of the EVGA website, is there IP range blocking in effect because of the bots? I am not looking to buy right now but it means I have to get all my product information on EVGA cards elsewhere, nor can I access tools or support information for people.

Clear your browser cookies and site info. I had to do this on Firefox and the site started loading for me again. Only happened right at launch for some reason.

So are the XC3 cards okay?  I have one on order through Amazon and am not sure if I need to cancel it.  If I am understanding the video right, they are not since they only have one array of caps.

Can anyone confirm they have an FTW3 Ultra 3080 and successfully OC'd past 2Ghz without crashes?
