U guys knew about this issue weeks, if not months ago...and you are all coming out of the closet now...ONLY BECAUSE OF INDEPENDENT REPORTING. This is not how u build trust...

I would think they wouldn't need to tell us.  They fixed the problem before shipping the cards.  I bet other things didn't work either, shrouds with differing screw hole tolerances and heat sink designs that needed to adjustments before production.  The point is they tested the cards, found an issue and corrected the design prior to shipping a single product.  That happens all the time.  I would be concerned more about Zotac and Gigabyte who either didn't test it or did and still sent it out there not even meeting the Nvidia spec of 1 group of 10 MLCCs for the board.  However, it is my understanding the earlier NVIDA specs had didn't have the MLCCs at all (not sure if that is accurate though).

As far as trust, EVGA should get your trust because the fixed it in production and did not deliver a faulty product.  Their design for power is nearly identical to the Founders Editions.  When independent review determined there were issues, they confirmed the review and said they had fixed the issue in testing... not hiding anything.  Has Zotac said anything, Gigabyte... that is where my trust it questionable.

My personal feeling is that NVIDIA is probably more to blame for their rushed launch and secrecy about the specs.  It doesn't feel and rumor indicates that the partners didn't get enough time to build out these designs.  This probably the root cause.  If you don't feel like you can trust the people that fixed the issue before selling it you are welcome to have an adventure with AMD in a few weeks.  They never have issues

Hi all,

Recently there has been some discussion about the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 series.

During our mass production QC testing we discovered a full 6 POSCAPs solution cannot pass the real world applications testing. It took almost a week of R&D effort to find the cause and reduce the POSCAPs to 4 and add 20 MLCC caps prior to shipping production boards, this is why the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 series was delayed at launch. There were no 6 POSCAP production EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 boards shipped.

But, due to the time crunch, some of the reviewers were sent a pre-production version with 6 POSCAP’s, we are working with those reviewers directly to replace their boards with production versions.
EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 series with 5 POSCAPs + 10 MLCC solution is matched with the XC3 spec without issues.

Also note that we have updated the product pictures at EVGA.com to reflect the production components that shipped to gamers and enthusiasts since day 1 of product launch.
Once you receive the card you can compare for yourself, EVGA stands behind its products!

Thanks
EVGA

Well done EVGA.

For everyone else worried, that means no one will have this issue since launch day.

A big thank you for this information update!!  Two things, if I may: Please get Newegg (and anyone else) to update EVGA product photos because they still show 6-poscap designs on literally all EVGA 3080+3090 cards.

Second thing, I have been unable to load evga.com since launch. It is HTTP 502 and has never loaded even once, not a single time from my desktop nor phone. I don't understand how others are able to access the product pages or other parts of the EVGA website, is there IP range blocking in effect because of the bots? I am not looking to buy right now but it means I have to get all my product information on EVGA cards elsewhere, nor can I access tools or support information for people.

I agree that EVGA fixed the problem before shipping product to customers...so they had no obligation to say anything about it. Now that other manufacturer's boards with 6 cheaper caps are exhibiting problems, it makes sense for EVGA to point out that they found and fixed the issue before shipping to customers. Good job EVGA.

Well, I guess this means you won't be able to OC over 2Ghz on a 20 MLCC setup would you need 60 MLCC set up to do that? Might be other limitations on a 60 MLCC setup.

Hmm, I was wondering why EVGA added the FTW3 Ultra to the Step Up program first. I figured is was to offload all the "Red Accent" models. Perhaps was I wrong it was actually to offload all the 6 POSCAP models? lol

Thank goodness, my FTW3 is arriving soon and I didn't want to have to worry about this.
