It just seems like step up really wouldn't be a priority for evga. To me. Why not just hold the majority of you inventory to make cold hard cash. Why would they even put a rush on buying back older cards? Just really doesn't make sense. I joined on 9/19. I'm not expecting my card before Jan.
I mean, this program alone has probably granted them a lot of brand loyalty by customers. I know that I'm kind of locked into evga GPUs and I would have picked up a PSU from them had they had the models I wanted in stock.
It also helps that their card, as far as I understand, is performing the best. And demand is crazy high. I get the math says to push the cards out for brand new full price purchases, but pushing a few out on the side for the step up question probably nets them future brand new purchases that make it worth it.
having done a step up before, I can say I specifically bought a 2070 Super in July in case rumors of an October launch were true
Also, they're able to flip the cards they receive on their website to make back some of the cost, they can sell a single older gpu twice this way, even if they sell them as refurb/b stock
there is a decent number of people who never buy current gen hardware for driver maturity and/or for discounts, the brand loyalty/good pr is a happy bonus (as EVGA cards are usually top performers, like mentioned)
i'll never hate on a brands valuing their consumers
supply limitations are from further up the chain anyway, and im just happy there's any option as opposed to other top performers like Asus where you buy it and that's it.
