For anyone experiencing this, please download this update:
https://www.evga.com/EVGA/GeneralDownloading.aspx?file=EVGA_Precision_X1_1.1.0.1.exe

  • Install this version of EVGA Precision X1
  • It will prompt to update the firmware
  • After firmware update, reboot PC

Just FYI, Chrome, Windows Defender kept flagging the .exe untrust.

This is seriously unbelievable customer support, to have this turned around so quickly on a Friday, the issue is gone!  You won a new fan, now I know why everyone raves about EVGA =)

But it shouldn't have passed QA in the first place.

As someone who had unfortunate honor of having one of the video-card-go-boom 1080's.. I agree. I hope that going forward with new cards, the long term fix isn't voltage or clock retarding/limiting and is a hardware change that keeps a 1:1 performance from the advertised specs.

These are new fans (not used in previous generations) so little hiccups are always a possibility.  If they were the same kind from previous generations, you would be absolutely correct as it is something they would be looking for.

Are you saying this fix is a voltage/clock limiting fix or speaking in general terms?

This appears to have fixed the issue for me as well. Windows defender takes issue with the instillation a bit but it's not big problem. I also only see one fan in the software now, which is fine. I'll trade some fine tune control ability for getting rid of that ear grating beep

Wow, I just verified the fix on my end as well.  No high pitched tone, and I think the fan noise in general is quieter - like the default curve isn't as aggressive.

Seems like some cards got out with older firmware?  Regardless of the cause, EVGA was incredibly fast with pushing out a fix - in the middle of a weekend.

Default curve doesn't seem to exist for me anymore. I only see one fan now and they're constantly running even sub 55c which is honestly fine because I can't hear them anyways. The high pitched tone sound is gone so I'll take that.

I think that's a separate bug with the X1 software - sometimes it will show 1 fan or 2 when I start it.  Restarting the application fixes this for me.

I had the same thought process for performance and asked him on Twitter - no performance decrease - He stated it was a Fan MCU setting.

Yes, there is no impact to performance or fan performance. It is a fan MCU setting update.
