Wow i can’t believe how huge of an issue this turned out to be.

I don't know if its a huge issue or not, it seems to be a small sample size but everyone I've talked says its always the same fan on the XC3 Ultra near the power connectors on the end of the card

Consider how small the current sample size of people with the card in hand is. This is not about to get better, evga is about to have a huge mess on their hands

Yeah - is there anyone with this card yet that says they don't have this issue?

There was a user on Reddit that confirmed that they did not have this issue with their XC3 Ultra. Not sure if the boxes have something that would signify build or lot or anything related to a production group. That would be good to know if everyone has a card from the same lot then that may narrow it down a bit as well.

Dealing with this as well. Lined up at micro center and got whatever they had, which was an xc3 ultra. Guess I'm going to try and get a replacement from them first

Seems that EVGA Jacob is looking into this for us, I @'d him on twitter.

I have the XC3 Ultra as well, I can't hear a thing. I put my head down by my card after ensuring the 3rd fan was spinning and I don't hear anything.

I'd agree with this as well, and add a couple more details:

If you run it without the middle fan (which isn't causing an issue) then it still happens on the 3rd fan, so if there's any concern over power delivery or a problem with the entire chain, then I think that can be ruled out (I'm not an expert, but my basic knowledge of circuitry should be sufficient here so please correct me if I'm wrong)

The sound is absolutely gone when the 3rd fan is disabled in X1, and I don't think it's a fan issue whatsoever. A friend of mine got the same exact card, and he plugged the beige (2nd) fan into the blue port, and the blue (3rd problematic fan) into the beige port. He reported that it was then the middle fan acting up. This makes me think it's the PWM controller as everyone is saying and is either a hardware issue, or something that can hopefully be fixed with a firmware update which would save EVGA a heck ton of money in shipping/RMAs.

For now, I've disabled the problematic fan and am only going to use it in light workloads until my ticket gets an answer. It's the weekend so I imagine they're going to get back to me monday once they see how this thread has blown up.

Best of luck to all of you who waited in line/got lucky and are now suffering this noise!

Might have to turn up volume YT compressed audio or something because it's much louder when my phone plays the source file.

I think you just convinced me this is a design flaw in the PWM.

I checked the video, running DAC/AMP ref headphones - I cannot recognize eerie noise you're speaking about (maybe I'm half deaf).

XC3 Black on backorder, I hope it doesn't have any issues. I can't return it since it is a final sales.

It may be clearer in the vid I posted in the other thread: https://youtu.be/kMtPsKnAvCc

It doesn't seem super loud in the video, but it really is.  My case is on my floor next to my desk and I can hear it over games,  it's really grating on the nerves.

Yeah I hear it from this video.
