Quick Question, as most of you know these chips are hard to find, and back ordered in most places, the 10-9980XE is newer and has a few minor features, and a huge price cut, from what I am told, For all practical purposes the 9980XE, is the same chip, I found a place that said they had both the 10-980XE was about a thousand, and the 9980XE was about 2,000. I ordered the cheap one. Received a receipt for the old one at the price of the cheap one.... should I care? From what I understand the small stock clock change is negligiable, and would not matter if I OC, The Ram speed difference is negligible, and would not matter if I use XMP, and the number of PCIe lanes 44 to 48 is a moot point if the mother board does not support the additional lanes. This will be going into a X299 FTW K? What do you think, should I care, should I say anything, or should I just take what they send me, and move on.

So are you saying you paid for the 10980XE but received the 9980XE instead?  If so yes the 2 are pretty much identical except for a few newer features in the 10980XE.  If you got a 9980XE for around $1000 then it was still a great deal but on the other hand if you ordered the 10980XE thats what you should have received. Amazon was having a lot of issues where they had the 10980XE listed with the wrong SKU and people were receiving the wrong products.  However its then hard to prove that unless you took a video of the unpackaging of the item.  I have had both the 10980XE and the 9980XE and was able to pretty much get the same results from both.

 It Lives !!!!!

It Lives !!!!! Ended up getting the i9-9980X Batch L016G752
Left over case and PSU, X299 FTW K from RMA, Lots of pretty RGB, that gets completely covered with two GPU's and a Large enough Cooler, OC Bot gave me a 4.3 With Temps in 70's, when pushed, and 64 GB of 3000 memory (F4-3200C16D16X4 TridentZ RGB), using XMP. Now to clean up and tie strap the wires, and replace the DVD Drive, then start moving everything off the X58 to the X299's two 970evo's, or two sets of Three Raid 0 SSD drives. Ahh that Moment when you have spent weeks researching, and ordering parts, day's waiting on them, hours putting them together, and are about Ready to Plug it in, flip a switch, and hope there is no smoke.

9980XE is a great CPU, but I would demand a replacement, if I paid for 10980 and got 9980 instead. Substitution with inferior product is unacceptable especially if customer wasn't let known of upfront and wasn't given option to wait or accept a different product.

This is like paying for 2080 and getting 1080 instead.

Clock-for-clock, the 9980XE is faster than the 10980XE. The 10980XE has in-silicon spectre mitigations added which slowed it down a bit clock-for-clock. So when comparing performance and features, it really depends on the clock speed used and how much you value spectre mitigations.

Yeah my opinion is that the performance is so close i think it was a good deal. The 9980XE of course was overpriced at $1900 and he got it for around $1100 but the 10980XE is valued at $1000 and its hard to find one for less then $1500. If he was to return the 9980XE and demand the 10980XE which they may or may not actually have he could just be looking at a refund and still not get his 10980XE.  Yes he might get his refund and then put it towards a 10980XE somewhere else but chances are he's gonna be around the $1500 mark anyways. So still paying probably $500 over retail when he's got the 9980XE for practically half price. Dollar for Dollar and performance vs performance i think he's got the better deal.

Congrats on this upgrade. Getting an AIO cooler to replace the air cooler when be beneficial.
