I recently purchased a new EVGA 1000GQ 80 plus Gold For my new Gaming Rig I just built. Well the P/S Works Great. But, when I plug in the power cable for my SATA drives, the P/S will not startup. I can hear the relay click, but nothing. Unplug the SATA power cable, and it works again. Now, I purchased the cables seperatly, cause the guy on eBay I purchased the P/S from, didn't tell me that the cables weren't included.
Does anyone know if the QG series uses a different PIN Configuration on the cables that go into the P/S ?? for instance, the SATA power is a 6pin plug, that has only 5 wires in the harness pigtail. If im looking at the harness with the tab facing up, the last bay on the bottom right has no wire/pin. Im wondering if it needs to be moved to a different pin/bay. The P/S end has a pin in all 6 blocks, so If anyone out there can shed some light, I would greatly appreciate it.

You got the wrong SATA cable/s.

See Which EVGA Modular Cables are compatible with my PSU? in the EVGA FAQs (Please note that all GQ power supplies are not cross-compatible with any other cable sets.)

Contact EVGA Customer Service to get the right cable/s, or get them at CableMod.

You could just simply re-pin the SATA connectors to the proper pinout on the SATA connector end..That shouldn't be a biggie.

EDIT: Here is a better pinout.

Hi,

I am sorry for the cable issue.  We can set up a custom order for you, to get the full cable set.  It is recommended to use the exact cables for the Power Supply, they will cost about $59.99 plus tax and shipping.  If you do have original cables, but need SATA power cables, you can find them on the EVGA Shop.  SATA cables for 1000GQ: https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=W001-00-000115   Molex cables for 1000GQ: https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=W001-00-000116.  However if you need the full cable set, please let us know.

Thanks for the wire diagram, Bob16314, Do you know where I could find the pinout diagram for the harness that plugs into the P/S ? Cause like you said, I can pull and relocate the pins on that harness, its got a block of 6 ports, but only has 5 wires, and the wire I have, the bottom right corner is the empty slot, not sure which wire that is, but I can figure it out if I can find a schematic. If you know where I can find one please do tell .. Thanks for the help, Much appreciated !!

No, sorry.

But you could borrow or buy a digital multimeter..Then turn on the PSU and check the terminal voltages..Then check continuity with the ohmmeter to find out which terminal on the SATA end matches up with which terminal on the PSU end..Draw a diagram as to what's what, then re-pin the PSU end.

You can buy an el cheapo multimeter that will do the job for under $10 at someplace like Walmart or just about any auto parts store..They're always handy to have around.
