I have a MSI X470 Gaming Plus MoBo with an 8 pin and 4 pin power connector. The 4 pin is labeled "CPU_PWR2" and nothing on the 8 pin. I built this PC in 2018 and have used an EVGA 550 G3 power supply with only one 4+4 pin "CPU_PWR2" cable plugged in and it has worked fine. I recently ordered an EVGA SuperNova 850 G5 (arriving today) and noticed the cpu cables in the picture (and the one on the 550 G3 which I am currently using) are 4+4 pin connectors. Now forgive me if this sounds stupid, but do I use the 4+4 cable for the 8 pin connector (just put both in side by side) and then another 4 pin cpu cable for the "CPU_PWR2" connector (I realize it's for OC)?

Recently I have been getting random reboots (no BSOD) and I'm not sure if the CPU is getting enough power as it is a Ryzen 5 2600x and is running at a clock speed of 4150 MHz at idle and has capped out at 7374 MHz. I thought maybe my 500 G3 wasn't performing as it should but maybe I just need more power? I have the bios set to default and as far as I know, I have not done any overclocking.

Yes.

Normally the two 4 pins together will have a lip when put next to each other that will make the back even between the two. I recommend looking at the cables before installing so you can see the lip that sticks out and make sure you are plugging it in correctly so it sits flush.

Cool GTX
I always use 8-pin when available

those little locking arm will latch on the socket bump when they are aligned properly

Glad that the community was able to help you out but I am surprised your system ran without any major hiccups for this long.

Not sure why it's not labeled but yes the 8 pin port is basically CPU_PWR or CPU_PWR1 and you definitely want something in that.  The "extra" 4 pin is essentially not really needed.  Buildzoid has done many mobo breakdown videos and suggested the single 8 pin was even enough for something like the 16 core 32 thread 3950X.
