The CPM Game Group, the organisers of the Game Developers Conference (GDC), has confirmed that GDC will continue as planned next month, despite Coronavirus fears. While Sony (PlayStation) and Facebook have confirmed that they have cancelled their GDC appearances, citing employee safety as their main concerns, GDC's organisers remain confident that GDC 2020 will remain a safe and successful event.

GDC 2020 is due to take place in San Francisco between March 16th and March 20th; and to improve safety this year, the event will feature enhanced safety measures to mitigate potential health risks. These enhanced safety procedures include the use of "disinfecting electrostatic sprayers in high-traffic areas", "more frequent wipedowns of all common touch areas", "a significant increase in hand sanitizer stations" and "daily carpet sanitisations in the Expo areas".

GDC 2020's organisers have also been quick to confirm that the conference's "China-based conference attendees will not be attending this year", following the US Government's restrictions on travel from areas that are impacted by coronavirus (COVID19). Furthermore, the San Francisco Department of Public Health has not recommended the cancellation of any public events at this time. As it stands, GDC will continue as normal in 2020 despite concerns surrounding coronavirus. That said, several companies are likely to follow the leads of Sony and Facebook and cancel their visits over employee health concerns.

It looks like there will be plenty of safety measures in place in my personal opinion.

I think it will be safe as any large public gathering. I mean it's not like we have seen a massive outbreak linked to an international airport which would be far more likely then GDC being the source. It's also far more likely that something like an NBA title game would be the source as that draws thousands into a tight area from around the world to watch.

With new cases still happening & no know way to test for it - especially before symptoms ..... not sure this is the best idea

I know rescheduling could be an issue ... but probably prudent to do so .... organizers would probably loose money if they did

All you need is one 'hot' person to infect many people who then return to where they came from & spread it even more

I agree cancellation of show to later would be prudent for lose of money and inconvenience. Just be Safe

True but I think it's safer to go to GDC then it will be to go to the Olympics in Japan this year. Most countries on earth and one event with thousands of people traveling to it for a once in a life shot at the gold. It's not something you turn down because you might get sick. After the Olympics everyone will fly home with what ever they might have come in contact with at the Olympic village.
