I am looking for help in choosing a GPU.
My rather old self-build consists of: M.B: Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE GPU: Radeon HD 4670 Ultimate, RAM: 16gb Kingston Hyper DDR3 1600.

What I want is to have a dual monitor set-up to move windows between the two monitors. When using Win 7 the set-up works perfectly: DVI out to LG monitor and HDMI to Sony TV. I have installed Linux Mint 19.3 in a dual-boot set-up and when using Linux the HDMI to TV causes the system to freeze. The only solution is to change the GPU.

I am not a gamer I just need a GPU that can play video to 1080 and most importantly work in LM. I know the 1050ti may a bit too powerful for my system and I wont get the best out of the card but it will be good for a future build, Thanks for any advice.

I think your Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P  support Bus Interface is  PCI-PCIe 2.0 x16 and that your graphic card support is PCIe 3.0 x16 will not work as maybe you need new MB can support Bus Interface PCIe 3.0 x16 or Graphics card support 2.0.
If I was you I will better go new MB can support 3.0!! it up to you

He will hold back the GPU a little bit with a PCIe 2.0 MB - it will not stop a PCIe 3.0 card from working ... just needs a 8x bus

If the GPU requires UEFI / boot issue is the biggest concern with older MB & newer GPU  .. that is what can cause the most concern

& I'd update the chipset to the newest driver first

One has to take a hard look at the quality of any PSU - especially older ones

My thread about this - updated an older PC Does EVGA GT 730 (02G-P3-3842) Work in old Dell Inspiron 580 <solved>Works FINE !

i dont see a reason not to work

Interesting link

I'd still Call EVGA CS first .... confirm that UEFI MB is Not required for the specific card your looking at

Contact Customer Service

I can not find any confirmation that it will work & I have not dug deep into that specific MB - to see if UEFI for the GPU is some how supported

The OP can always try to ask the MB Mfg

Thanks to all of you for taking time to offer your help & advice. I get the PCIe issue and I am willing to put up with less performance until I upgrade MB/CPU/RAM. The older MB runs on the legacy BIOS which may be an issue - I will contact CS. Many thanks
