Hi All,

Im building a new system and the MoBo that I'm considering is a Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI but it has an additional ATX 12V 2X2 connector for the CPU.  I have a new EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G3, 220-G3-0650-Y1 ordered that doesn't have the cable for this.  The system will have an i5-9600KH, RTX 2060 Supper and not be OC'd.  I've read several places that its not needed and other places that say it does.  If I need it can I order a cable that will work with the 650 G3 or will I need to return it and get a PSU that has the cable?

Thanks!
Jeff

Cool GTX
I would get one of the EVGA 750 Watt PSU that already has  2 - power cables for the CPU

Will 1 CPU 8-pin work ? [ATX 12V 8pin + 4pin power connector]
Secondary CPU power (4-pin) on MB is for OC of powerful CPUs  ---> That would be Normal way it works  {You can contact Gigabyte support to confirm}

 What other items are in your build that Require power direct from the PSU ?

With the use of the power connector, the power supply can supply enough stable power to all the components on the motherboard. Before connecting the power connector, first make sure the power supply is turned off and all devices are properly installed. The power connector possesses a foolproof design. Connect the power supply cable to the power connector in the correct orientation. The 12V power connector mainly supplies power to the CPU. If the 12V power connector is not connected, the computer will not start. To meet expansion requirements, it is recommended that a power supply that can withstand high power consumption be used (500W or greater). If a power supply is used that does not provide the required power, the result can lead to an unstable or unbootable system

The only other items drawing from the PSU would be 2 SSD and 1 HDD.  3 case fans and 1 CPU fan (CM Hyper 212) on the MoBo.  I have a ticket in at Gigabyte to confirm one way or another.

What GPU will you use ?

You would have to get a Custom Wired Cable - [to use one of the VGA outputs to power a CPU & not Cause damage]

Since you won't be overclocking you'll be fine just using the included 4+4 pin cable.

Thanks all!  I will give it a shot with the 650 ordered.

I have a Corsair HX 750 in another system that list the 5 slots as "6+2 PCI-E & 4+4 CPU" and all the socket shapes are the same.  I thought "possibly" I could use the 2nd VGA socket for the CPU if they have a cable that would work.

I hope it's working for you. Be sure not to mix cables from different PSU's. The pin outs may not be identical.

I use an OHM meter to make sure they are wired the same.  I found in my stash a CPU splitter cable with a solid 4+4 and split 2+2 x 2+2 that will work.

I saw a Seasonic PSU that also had 4 sockets marked "CPU/PCI-E" so they must be the same voltage.

Thanks all for the reply's!
