So this is not going to be fixed, then? I bought the laptop under the assumption that I could upgrade the hdd with an ssd that I have.
That's really disappointing. I finally bought EVGA because I wanted to have a high quality (which the laptop definitely is, sans this issue) product with excellent customer service.

I'm tempted to just put the HDD back in, but it's already past the return period for the SSD and I have no other use for it.

Was hoping this would be resolved by now. Amazon's got a Prime Day sale on the same model of SSD's in 2.5" and M.2. I might just replace the primary on this thing, since 256GB is nothing with today's game sizes.

Anyone know if this is compatible? I know the primary is NVMe, not sure if a NAND will work.

It is a shame EVGA hasn't resolved this issue yet, but SATA2 speed is still a lot quicker than an HDD.  Not saying that SATA2 on a 2017 notebook is acceptable though.

Just wanted to bump this thread ...... why isn’t this fixed till now ? ..... we all can see that the full speed should be possible , starrbuck gets at least full write speed ...... so what’s the problem ..... i bet the board , cables and everything else are generic parts ,

i won’t accept „this is one of the reasons why we can't support any other drives than the ones we include“

The drive shouldn’t matter , my old 2012/13 laptop ist able run ssd at SATA 3 Speed without problems

Isn’t there someone specialized with bios coding at EVGA ?

Edit

Had the beta bios flashed did the change within the bios to sata3 no change in speed therefore the ssd seems to disappear sometimes , sometimes even the bios could not detect it , changed back to 1.06 so far it seems more stable haven’t lost the ssd til now (Samsung 860evo 1tb)

To be sure the ribbon cable what connects the ssd is 100% SATA3 And not a cheap sata2 cable correct ?

on the left the nvme , on the right side the 2.5"ssd , so sad

When EVGA representatives go silent, it usually means that they have no idea. Good luck!

Sold mine b/c of this. So sad. Otherwise the best laptop I'd ever owned. I don't do mechanical hdd's.

Does someone still trying to get sata3 speed with this laptop ?

To summariz the original hdd never run on sata3 only in SATA2 so 6g is a lie , every ssd tested so far only runs in sata2 mode even with this super duper Beta bios

Is it so hard for EVGA to take a EVGA sc15 from the shelf take a technician with bios coding skills and try it for real to fix this

I bet the beta bios is only a bios where someone enabled the modi within the bios and that it .... sorry iam a little pissed off

It could be something this simple.  No way to know without help from EVGA.

I'm not selling my laptop because of it.  Truth is, I don't really even need the second SSD for what I do on it today. I am just really disappointed. I've replaced a lot of HDDs in laptops and I've never seen this.
