Hi,
i'm running a i7 960 on a 3x SLI LE Rev 1.0, currently.

It would be nive to have a bit more power and I saw that the 6 core westmere cpus are quite affordable.
I found this mod () but unluckily the pics are gone.
Is there anyone who could post the mod again, so I can do the mod on my own?

Edit: Seems like I'm not allowed to post links. The thread I'm talking about is called "Do I need to mod my X58 SLI LE Rev 1.0 to accept Xeons"

Short the pads outlined in white with solder. The one above the cpu is a resistor so you can either just solder across it (or use conductive ink, your choice) or remove it and then short the pads.

I managed to get my X5650 to work on mine, but adjusting the vcore in the bios or via software has no effect.

Only way I got it to work was by shorting the marked pads above the cpu and doing the same resistor mod as with the e758.

Might try again later sometime though.

I've got an x5650 coming I'll post back when I've had a chance to try it. And when you talk about the resistor mod are you talking about this mod [can't post links....]

I just did the mod to use a X5687 because I acquired two of them out of a Dell Precision that died.  It worked, sort of.  It posts and boots Windows and seems stable, but the CPU fan header doesn't work and the BIOS reads the CPU temp very wrong.  It thinks it's about 11C when it should be 30C.  But I don't know if those issues were pre-existing or not.

@mbeutlet would you be able to post the pics of the aftermath of the physical mod on the MB??
