Well I got my thermal pads but I got one of the earlier packets, so no new VRAM pads. I'm still experiencing artifacts during game play and I'm worried about the chips having issues going forward. Before I ask for an RMA I'd like to know if I'll receive a new card or a remanufactured card. I really feel like after all this I should receive a new one. I purchased my card at the end of July.

I feel for you maybe ask for the memory pads and try them out before you RMA the card, your call of course, EVGA has deeply disappointed me, I will think twice before I buy from them again. >:(

Yeah this is absolute bs. I'll probably get one of the RMA'd cards with issues where they just apply the thermal pads, throw it on a test bench to make sure it turns on, and send it out. I tried letting them take the easy way out by mailing the thermal pads but even that wasn't a full fix. I'd have to wait for new ones. I've been having issues for months but chalked it up to drivers, man was I wrong.

The rep told me the recertifieds are tested and have a three year warranty, but I really don't care, this was your oversight not mine! I shouldn't be given a second hand replacement. I was okay up till now, but at this point I think only a full return and refund would make things any better.

You are right to ask for a refund but EVGA only does them within 30 days of purchase and charges a 15% restocking fee. :|

A few more 1060 BIOS's added to first post, including one for 1060 SC with a slightly more aggressive fan curve.

I commend EVGA on how they are handling these issues and your response times. Top notch and I don't regret ordering my first EVGA GPU even with this small hiccup :).

So I currently have a 1080 I bought a month ago running 86.04.17.00.80 BIOS, this new BIOS that fixes the heat issue is 86.04.3b.00.82 , I don't know much about numbers but isn't that a previous version compared to my BIOS? do I still have to update?

Question to EVGA_JacobF

I bought an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW ACX3.0 3-4 weeks ago and I'm waiting for the thermal pad mod. I also use the new updated vBIOs. Basically I'll use all the options EVGA provides to make the card safe and cool. I hope I will not have to resort to warranty service hence I will do every option EVGA gives me to make sure the card will be safe. Since I don't have the skills to install the pads I will give this responsibility to the computer store where I bought the card - they are professionals had agreed to do this for me for free and they will follow this EVGA's provided manual for installing the pads.
This manual:

I was thinking to use the Arctic MX-4 instead of that provided by EVGA to ensure the GPU runs even cooler in addition to the VRM and VRAM oriented thermal pads provided by EVGA and the updated vBIOS. The thing is that I don't OC my card as it is already factory OCed (that's the reason I paid extra for a FTW version) . I'm planning on running the card only on its factory default clocks speeds and voltage. Some would say that I don't need the MX-4 if I don't overclock but I thought that cooler GPU temps are always welcomed and the MX-4 doesn't cost much.

My question is this:

Can I use the Arctic MX-4 thermal paste instead of the thermal paste provided by EVGA without voiding warranty.
Or let me ask this this way: Will using a thermal paste other than that provided by EVGA void warranty?

Thanks in advance

No it is not.

Meaning... No it is not a previous version and I have to update?

Meaning, it is a newer version.  Whether you update or not is up to you.  My personal opinion is that you should update the bios and either perform the thermal pad mods yourself, or RMA the card to EVGA so they can send you a new one.  They will cross ship to you, so it really is a no hassle procedure.
