I just bought an evga 1080 FTW from amazon, I've had it for about 10 days and its still in the box. Should I return this card and look for something else? I've read people say its only futuremark with altered drivers but if that was the case evga would not offer hardware and software mods (imo). If this is the Note 7 of graphics cards I'm not sure I want to plug this in and use it. I am comfortable doing the mods and then some but this is not something I really planned for when making my purchase choice.

Any advice is appreciated.

Send it back to Amazon and get new ones or RMA to EVGA, you get new ones either way. I have made a Advanced RMA. They said it takes a few weeks before then send out the new one. I dont want to risk a expensive card like this.

Hi all

I have a 08G-P4-6276-KR - EVGA1070 FTW.

I flashed the new secondary BIOS and it appears to have REDUCED the fan curve. Previously it idled at ~1,000 RPM - now it idles at ~500 RPM. Previously it hit about ~1150-1290 RPM around 60 deg in heaven... now more like ~850 - 1150 RPM.

Is this intended? I thought the opposite was supposed to be the intention?

I have rolled it back for now and would be grateful to hear from others if this is normal behaviour and if so whether we know why....?

I also noticed this and flashed back the previous bios.

I told you day one, EVGA, playing with your customers will get you cornered and in full panic mod...didn't i?

Now to add some food for the thoughts i'll let statistical numbers do the talking (one may investigate if necessary):

Onsemi Reliability Data: NCP81382HMNTXG/NCP81382MNTXG
Without any mods 'being optional' ( aka Stock cards/no additional OC): VRMs Temps measured at 107°c to 114°c max
0.7eV - 107°c - 90% confidence - MTBF/MTTF: 7321258hrs - 78.98 FITS
0.7eV - 114°c - 90% confidence - MTBF/MTTF: 8603197hrs - 116.24 FITS

An imaginary card with properly contained VRM heat at 78°c (close to the market average):
0.7eV - 78°c - 90% confidence - MTBF/MTTF: 64869441hrs - 13.52 FITS

The same can be done with the VRAM (temps are usually between -40°c ~95°c max for industrial grade, far less for commercial grade 0°c ~85°c max)

Good to hear the 1080 Founder's Editions are unaffected with this issue. So glad I spent the extra for the F|E!

For the warranty, we agree that it doesnt change a thing if I dont put the pads ?

Correct. Warranty is still intact even if you do not apply thermal pads.

While you must necessarily flash new bios fix for warranty validity?

I would have to say NO. Keeping the card as is from when you bought it should be valid. EVGA would have to get in contact with each customer to make sure the customer gets the message/understand that the BIOS update is mandatory to keep warranty.

To request a RMA, first of all must you send a ticket from this  : evga.com/support/ticket/support.aspx ?
