I just bought a 1060 to replace the defunct video board in my Mac Pro 4.1 because of what I read here...

But then, no matter what I try, the Mac just won't boot...no nothing, just a black screen...any hints?

Mac's are funny like that. generally you have to get a "MAC" edition card, something with the firmware is different.

My Evga GTX 1060 6GB ACX 2.0 06G-P4-6161-KR, single cooler and heatsink is weak.
 
I bought used cooler Evga GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0. 
 
Upgrade dual cooler and heatsink (Evga GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0) to Evga GTX 1060, is WORKING !!!!
