Anyone have any info on the HB SLI bridge? Is it going to be required for use with the 1080, or will standard bridges work? Also does it even allow for 3 and 4 way SLI configurations?

I believe standard SLI Bridge should work find, those are Nvidia specific style to match the GPU reference card.

Standard bridge will probably work, but apparently the new bridge doubles the memory bandwidth between the cards over the old bridges.

I hope you are right about the standard bridge working. I'm looking to buy 3 1080's for my surround setup. I've just not seen 3-way SLI mentioned at all with the 1080/1070.

From the Nvidia website:
nvidia.com
Geforce GTX
SLI HB Bridge
NVIDIA’s new SLI HB bridge doubles the available transfer bandwidth compared to the NVIDIA Maxwell architecture. Delivering silky-smooth gameplay, it’s the best way to experience surround gaming—and it’s only compatible with the GeForce GTX 1080.

I says it's only compatible with the GTX 1080, but it doesn't say that it's required, so I'm really not sure.

Yeah, I'm just assuming. I don't see why they'd make their old ones no longer work. But, since SLI bridges generally come with the motherboard and not the gpus, I honestly don't know.

Hi,

I can confirm that the older SLI bridges will work, but the performance will not be as high as with the new bridge.

Thanks Chris. I appreciate the info. I really had no idea the SLI bridge was used to transfer that much data that it has an impact on performance.

Can you possibly comment on if the GTX 1080 will in fact be compatible with 3 way SLI?

I hate that the nvidia logo doesn't light up like the older ones. 2x the bandwidth is good though.

Really? Damn. I purchased a $30 EVGA Pro SLI bridge for SLI 980, and now I need a new bridge for SLI 1080? =(

Will EVGA offer their own 1080 bridges that support the higher bandwidth? At launch hopefully? :)

Yes, I believe EVGA will have their own version SLI Pro Bridge, because EVGA will have their own version of the GTX 1080 (SC, FTW / ACX 2.0 or maybe 3.0?
