Definitely keeping my eye out on the FTW+ and I really hope we can Step Up to it with a FTW. I have 43 days left on my Step Up time and it would be great to get the new one with all of the new features. I do agree the FTW+ should've been the original one.

I also would like to know.

It's sad that you are buying a powerful model and they release better/improved model after two months.

Would it really be worth it guys, I mean changing out video cards just to go from the FTW to the FTW+?
I ask because I really don't know, I just got my new FTW here a couple of weeks ago with the backplate and love it. I mean if I did that, I would really not gain anything in the performance department right?

I almost pulled the trigger on a purchase today. Then I found this article while researching. I think I will wait a bit longer.

This was mentioned previously by another forum member, but it was never cited.

*** I also realized that my specs are old in my signature! Updated!

hey there is a link in my original comment,  it is just small.  It copy pasted over by itself so I was just lazy with the  whole link.  thanks for adding it.

as the only cost would be that of shipping I would do it.  this new card should have better overall cooling as the heatpipes are running inline with the card now not to mention the memory cooling.  I would spend the extra $10-20 if that is all that it costs.  the new ssc is the same price as the old sc model so I would expect the same for the ftw+

Completely worth it. 6+2 power phase vs 4+2, full length backplate that comes with it, a cooler that covers the memory chips and other components, and a 6+8 (75W+150W) pin power setup instead of 6+6 (75W+75W) for higher clocks and better stability while overclocked. It could even ship with the memory overclocked and be overclocked higher than the normal FTW because of the memory cooling. I wouldn't be super upset if they do not allow it but it would be a nice gesture and I always hear about how good EVGA support is.

To answer your performance question you'd gain a bit from overclocking but overall the FTW+ is geared more for overclocking. If you do not care about it your standard FTW will do just fine. People ordered the FTW to get the better binned chips and overclock higher, but overclocking on the current FTW is limited quite a bit due to lack of power draw.

Ok thanks for the feedback guys, will keep my eye on the forums and if this becomes available as a step up from the FTW  will probably take advantage of it.

Thanks,

I can stepup from a vanilla 970, but what is the point. 980 and 970 are just midrange cards indisguise... Anymore investment is a waste on these when gm200 is coming!

Can you post a link on this?

I wonder if they improved coils in FTW+

I really hope they do. I've been worried about buying this current arch of cards because I hear a lot about whining. But I have faith. I really want EVGA to be my first GPU card.

He's just talking about NVIDIA's current business model. Their first lineup of a new architecture is kind of stripped down, then their next revision of the architecture is better but also more pricey. They did this with Kepler, but it makes no difference as the price scales up anyways. The GTX 970 is a great deal and I highly doubt the next revision of the Maxwell architecture will match the price. I don't think the new Maxwell is due for another 9 months or so and they still haven't even released the GTX 960 yet.
