Hold the phone... I was quite literally one click away from purchasing the extended warranty to reactivate the step up program in order to step my FTW up to a FTW+ (missed the 14-day period by 1 day), and I don't know what came over me, but I decided to give EVGA a quick call just to confirm that they were indeed allowing this...

The answer I was given is that it "doesn't appear we are allowing FTW owners to step up to a FTW+ because that is stepping up to a GPU of the same class."

I just died a little.

I asked about why 970 SC owners were able to step up to the SSC version and he said that, "...it was a company decision to make an exception to the step up rules due to the heat pipe design of the original SC version."

Really, EVGA? The FTW can't even hold it's boost clock that you advertise because the power design implementation is inadequate. They need to rethink their decision because they just screwed over a lot of people. I bought my "new" FTW two weeks ago... already outdated

Hmm, this is the first I'm hearing after looking around the forums. I'm wondering if support is saying one thing while those able to step-up are going straight through with the process anyway. This ought to be interesting.

I sure hope that EVGA guy didn't know what he was talking about, but I want confirmation on this before I buy an extended warranty just for the heck of it

In the ftw+ thread by Jacob, it looks like you should be able to. Jacob didn't quote anyone on the answer, but he said you can step-up just like the new ssc. That should mean that ftw owners can step-up to ftw+

To clarify, yes you can stepup from FTW to FTW+, sorry for the confusion and we will let our team know.

I can get my SC to around 1460 mhz at like 67 degrees full load, so it'd only be around 3-4 fps more which is not really an in issue, but the main thing I'm worried about is that everyone is saying that the heat-pipes have some manufacturing defect, but my temps are fine so idk what to do

Referring to that one heatpipe that doesn't touch the core again? I'm still sticking to my original answer, but if these new features are something that interest you then don't let me or anyone else keep you from being happy .

Just got two 970 SSC for SLI yesterday. They are running 4K great right now. Real quiet, the fans don't run much and sometimes not at all as stated around the 60C mark. At 62 or 63 they only run at 250-320 rpm, still little to no noise. A nice step up from a single EVGA 760 4GB.

I really don't know what's going on, but are people coming from really trashy cards ? Oo.

I had 2x Palit 970s "reference" in SLI, then I sold them for 2x 980s in SLI reference as well.

My 4790k at 4.9Ghz couldnt utilize that mich GPU power and was the limiting factor. So I went for a 290x with 8GB by XFX.

Card was too loud an the Omega drivers are bad due to a 144hz memory bug on idle. So I replaced that card with a new 970 SSC 3975.

THW card has coil whine, when the Blades are spinning up at 60 DEG. The card is making a humming sound. And either you get 72 deg almost silent or loud 62 DEG. Thats nothing special at all. Max OC is a stable 1522mhz with 69% asic qual. Dont know why everyone is so mega hyped.
