You should always register your eVGA video card right away.  You have 14 days to register it to be able to step-up.  If you miss that window, you need to buy an extended warranty within 90 days to re-enable the step-up feature.  As to getting the video card from a pre-built, that is a box that you click when starting the step-up (yes or no from pre-built) and then you select from which manufacture.  As to the process after that, I can't tell you since I don't know from experience.  But hopefully eVGA does a special step-up program for FTW users that just allows us to send them our card and pay for shipping.

Thanks, ill double check, i might have missed the 14 days period that you are saying.

Hopefully FTW+ would be part of the step up program.

so the only thing that I really have taken from that video is that I should connect my fans to a fan controller or something so I can deliver more power to the GPU.

hey I have found some specs for the ftw+,  just digging around the evga website

gtx970ftw+ specs from evga website

you can see that the voltage increase is the same for the ssc and the ftw+

this is just the ssc

Nice find!  Looks like as speculated the only difference between the FTW+ and SSC will be the backplate and clocks.  I am going to hold out for a few more weeks and see if the FTW+ will be offered for the step up, if not I will pull the trigger on the SSCs.

fkrIII: Nice work, man! I'm strongly tempted to just get it over with and step up to the SSC, but I'm certain that 10 minutes after I do it, the FTW+ will suddenly be available.

Can't wait for that SSC backplate to be available.  My SSC doesn't like having its back exposed

For sure. I want backplates for my GTX 970 SSC's, i will be upset if they don't offer them. Can't wait to mess with them. Sucks I won't be able to run them much till Monday though... I just found out about 10 hours of OT I will be working for the next few days.

we should get backplates as the ssc and ftw+ look identical as far as pcb.  you would think that they will manufacture a few more while they are doing the run.

I just like the looks of a backplate,  they really do not do that much.  at first they help spread temps but after a while they reach the same temp threshold as the bare ram.  I would rather just keep my good case airflow going past them (I have a 140mm fan right there).  You could always add some real heat sinks to them if you really thought it would make a difference.

everything that I have ever read is that after a long benchmark or gaming session the temps would resolve to be the same.  I would love to see some temp comparison with/without backplate.  somebody (not me) start a thread or direct me to the thread if there is already one for the gtx970.

on the other hand the fact the ssc has the Memory MOSFET Cooling Plate will definitely help performance by keeping a dissipating layer between the memory and the GPU heatsink.

I just learned about this today. Being that the three Evga 970 super clocked gpu's I bought at the end of December, may be eligible for a "step up" has me wondering how this might work.  How would I even find out if evga was, in fact, offering such a deal.  Should I save all the original packaging?  Could I send them back, each of the three, separately.  That way my computer could always have a gpu to run on the computer.
