Hey guys. I ran the Time Spy test and it seems I have a bad score when compared to others. I also have a high average temperature (79º).

3080 Ti XC3 Gaming (12G-P5-3953-KR)
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/64922567?

I read that some of you improved temps and numbers by modifying the fan curve. In my X1, the fans are set as Auto. Any recommendations?

Is your card overclocked any? Have you updated the BIOS since the power issues for the XC3 was addressed? Try a more aggressive fan curve.

It is not overclocked. I just installed the card and updated the BIOS to its last version. What fan curve do you recommend? I don't even know where to change the fan curve and how to configure it. X1 or should I install MSI Afterburner?

Use either X1 or AB, and drag the points along the fan curve to where you want them percentage-wise at specified temps. In X1, there are fan options in the lower right window of the main screen. Otherwise, click the right arrow a couple of times until you see the individual fan curves. In AB, go into Settings and in the Fan tab click “Enable user defined software automatic fan control” to adjust the curve there.

Thank you for answering. I configured X1 with the preset "Aggressive." The temperature is better now (70º average); however, the score in Time Spy did not improve at all.

https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/64925299?

I don't even know if it can be improved or if this score is good enough for this card. If I compare with other scores that I saw in this post, my score is not good. Will the power issue is automatically fixed with the BIOS update on the XC3 cards, or should I perform an additional step "manually"?

I know you said you haven’t overclocked the card, but have you dragged the power slider all the way to the right in either X1 or AB? Just don’t forget to click Apply when you do if you haven’t already adjusted the power slider.

In X1, the power slider shows 100. Should I use it as 105 (max)? Is it even safe to modify it to 105? (the GPU temp is automatically moved to 91)

Yes, it’s perfectly safe to do so. The power and temp sliders are locked together unless you unlock them. All it does is allow the card to draw more power which means a bit more heat, so that fan curve you adjusted will work well. You aren’t using any custom BIOS or physically modifying the card, so you’re still operating within the designed power limit since it won’t allow you to go beyond 105%. You’ll notice a small improvement in Time Spy by adjusting the power limit, but you won’t see a huge increase unless you overclock.

Ok. Thank you for the help. I have one more question. Would you recommend undervolting to lower the temp (after maxing out the power slider)? Should I use MSI AB to do so? Because I do not know how to do it with X1.

Personally, I prefer AB over X1. And, you can try undervolting if you want a more stable clock with maybe a small dip in performance. You probably wouldn’t notice for gaming, but feel free to play around with it. I’d rather overclock than castrate my card though. That’s just my preference.

Just a reminder that physical damage will void your warranty.  Overclocking, on the other hand, will not.

Sorry, I did not get it what does it means. Which one of the two (undervolting or overclocking) could void my warranty if the GPU get damaged? And which one is safest to perform without voiding my warranty in case something fails?

Neither will void your warranty if you’re using X1 especially, and AB typically has the same features as X1 with regard to overclocking and undervolting. I believe Lee was talking about something like shunt modding which would physically alter your card, potentially damaging it in the process.

I think Lee might have been making a joke about "castrating" your card. That would do some physical damage.
