So looks like it was definitely the riser cable. I came home on lunch because it was bugging me and popped it directly into the slot and voila no more whea errors when opening precision or running 3dmark. It's a lot warmer in here so it crashed before it could finish but I'm pretty confident that's what it was as by now I probably would have had 20 errors or so.

its possible they want to bundle the PSU with the kingpin because of all of the 3090 KPE failures and this one has been specifically tested

What 3090 KPE failures? I thought all the EVGA 3090 failures were with the FTW3-based cards?

exactly . I bet 99% of RMA KPE was poor overclocking , lol

Nope. I had multiple 3090 KP RMAs and almost all of them were for hardware failures.  One was PX1 for bricking the card with a firmware update.  One of the cards was basically DOA with a dead cooling fan and a water pump that died within a couple hours of use.  One was for a leaking waterblocks that wasn't assembled correctly at the factory and couldn't be fixed because the screws were over torqued at the factory and the threads were damaged.  I think I also had another RMA for another hardware failure.  None of the failures were related to overclocking.  I actually know quite a few KP 3090 owners and have found only one who damaged the card due to overclocking and that one person going for a world record.  I'm sure Vince damaged a few, but his aren't normal RMAs I assume.

I'm sure its just EVGA unloading old PSUs.  The current 1600 watt design is rather old and EVGA has been releasing newer versions of their lower wattage PSUs.  The new 1300 watt and 1600 watt models have to be in queue for an upcoming release soon.

The P+ models were just launched middle of last year tho so i doubt it’s anything more than trying to sell extra units they made when demand was high.

Perhaps a bit of all of the above - killing several birds with one stone in the process?
  • - most likely (imo) bundled the 1600P2 with the 3090TiKP to make sure people use an adequate power supply for that GPU.
  • - pure speculation: possibly the 3090TiKP has voltage spikes that a lesser PSU cannot handle? - again, pure speculation, but it would save a lot of RMAs.
  • - perhaps all 4000 series cards will have 12-pin plugs, so EVGA are offloading as much existing stock as they can to make way for a new line of PSUs with 12-pin PCIe plugs.
  • - EVGA are just being generous after the last couple of years we've all gone through (I would not expect this from any other company but EVGA).
  • - liquidating stock, which could mean anything...
Again, this is all speculation based on absolutely nothing at all.

Damnn, 3090 ti KPE can be bought from the webstore directly now.

Ahhh, no wonder you don't see any on ebay. LOL. that and no miners to hog them up and it's not that in demand as the other KPE's in the past. yet, I still bought one. Doh!

Still can't buy them in Germany but with the 4090 arround the corner wouldn't make much sense to me either^^
My 3090kpe is still in the top50 of PR, thought I would get slamed by the 3090ti ;-)

They may not like it that both the original and reBar 3090 KP 1kw bios leaked.
