If you start folding say in the last year or two, how many tasks does it take to hit a billion points now?
With the powerful GPUs and the big PPD cards have been doing for the last couple years It's crazy.

I started folding April 20 of this year.  I have accumulated just under 353 million points on 1970 WU, almost entirely GPU, with some CPU tasks early on.  So, if my maths are correct, it would take about 5,280 WU roughly for me to hit a billion.

Thank you guys! And congrat's to everyone else on their efforts. I can't think of a better group that I would fold with.

Congratulations on all the milestones!!!

Amazing 5-6k WUs to hit a billion points, simply amazing.

yodap yeah I do like crunching BOINC, WCG. It is near and dear to me.
IBM is the backbone, Marist college is big into it, Vassar college too, at least they were.
I worked in IBM buildings for years, my daughter got her masters at Marist, I used to play as a kid on the Vassar grounds.
For some reason I prefer to use CPUs rather than GPUs to do DC calculations.

It's so surprising (in a good way) how productive these GPUs get! Compared to the little of BOINC points I got (across some old Android phones/tablets). The 1060 even seems to manage ~700k PPD, but it's only been maybe a month or so and I'm through 70 million points across my old 1060/2060 and new 3060Ti  planning to do this for as long as the electricity doesn't become too expensive and the cards keep cool . Plus, I hope it is accurate to say there's less wear and tear on the cards keeping them going 24/7 (thermal expansion vs. operating temps ~70-75C).

A full solar powered setup would be a really fun project to get off the ground too

On the back of the Time Zone Challenge I pushed my card hard for almost 24 hrs/day for the duration resulting in my best month so far, clearing 65 million.  This puts me at a touch over 361 million since I started on 4/20/2020.  Looking forward to cracking that billion point barrier in 2021.

Great job to everyone involved and may 2021 be better for all.

I'd say just over 4,000 WU,   bill1024
