Yeah, I found that, and I'm there, so I assume I did it right,
now how do I get that Folding : counter
on the left under my name?

hmm, after only 4 hours it looks like I've killed the fan on my 460 oc ee.
has developed a seriously irritating whine whenever it under load.
damn

well, I certainly don't have that kind of cash lying around just to 'fold' with!
I tried setting up the core selection option in Tracker, clicking apply and making sure the
applying new config settings line came up, but it kept using all the cores.
Also in the setup/configure/heat control there appears to be an option to select
'default GPU usage percent' but that does not appear to work either.
I changed it to 50% hit apply, but it continues to use 100% and when I return to
the heat control screen the percentage has returned to 100%.
strange.

Are you watching the performance tab in task manager?

Replies may appear at odd times as I am in Australia (9.30 am 26/5 or 5/26 as you put it!)

I guess you really are on the underside of the world. 8^)

Hi rklapp,
Using performance manager and also have a windows "desktop gadget"
from here http://gallery.live.com/l...a0d6&bt=1&pl=1
that is pretty useful for monitoring CPU usage.
Forgot to mention my O/S is Win 7 64 bit with service pack 1 and all the other updates etc

Yep we certainly are on the lower end of the world!

weird thing, been playing COD 2 getting up to 750 FPS and 55 degrees celcius and don't get that whine, (fan at 50-60%)
as soon as I start folding with the GPU the whine starts even before the fan spools up
don't get it doing Furmark bench tests either.
Some sort of electrical problem? dunno. most strange

If you set for 3 out of 4 cores for example, you'll still see activity of the 4th core. If you add up the %usage on all of the cores, it should add up to 75% plus whatever the system is using.

The whining is from the card's capacitors. I had a 470 that made a high pitch squeal until I changed the psu and the noise almost deminished.

hmm, I tried that, still maxed out all 4 cores.  strange.
The power unit is brand spanking new Antec  Truepower  750 so that
should not be a problem. As I said, it only does it when folding,
benchmarking/burning in at 100% does not get the whine from the GPU.
odd.
I'm only folding with the CPU until I can figure out how to limit the GPU
when folding.
Question. Why are the CPU projects worth so little points even though they
take quite literally 100 times longer?
edit to add - definitely not the fan making that whine. I can make the pitch of the
whine change by changing the core clock speeds with precision, lower speed = lower pitch
higher speed = higher pitch. Still only making the noise when folding

Hi there guys and girls..

My name's Fred and I run a online store in South Africa (Not as far away as the Aussies, but on the way) - don't go googling for it just yet, we're still busy loading products and started lagging behind as we kept getting orders before loading our list completely.

Just getting my name on here. I'm folding with 2 laptops (One is running the a4 - dual core and the other the normal single core) as well as a PC running the GPU version with a GTX280. I put my name down on the list and see the first finished WU is up on the stats, so I think I'm sorted. (Anything I left out? Please let me know)

I lost a family member about 2 years ago to cancer, but haven't heard of folding until a couple of months ago.

I find it's always nice to do what you can to help others out and who knows; 50 - 60 years from now I might sit with Alzheimer's or Cancer and would've wished more people joined the cause.

SA is lagging behind on folding, but I'm planning on starting a little initiative a bit later, perhaps giving a free EVGA t-shirt every now and then with my earned rewards to get things going (Will of course get people to join the EVGA team while doing that although I think my customers getting their boxes stating very big #1 folding@home team might just do the trick).

See you guys around.
