As Smiley104 pointed out in this thread, gaming on Linux has come a long way and it's actually really good now.
I've used Linux for a couple of decades and gaming was always something that came up short. I remember being excited that one game I loved, Dying Light, actually had a Linux port on Steam. So I would alternate playing a session under Windows and then under Linux. I remember being excited that all progress was shared. However, if you searched for games on Steam that supported Linux, the list wouldn't be very long.
Then the Steam started the Proton project, and I've been amazed playing at least my Steam games which never had an official Linux port, (like the Fallout series), under Linux using Proton. In fact when I played Dying Light using Proton, and compared it with the native Linux port, I liked the Proton playing experience better. (If I remember correctly the sound was better under Proton)
Gaming has gotten so good under Linux, I'm seriously considering my next system build to be all Linux, (or Linux dominant), and looking to spend most of my gaming time under Linux. (I've got a lot of system building to do first, so it'll be ways off before I have to decide the exact layout).
P.S. I don't have the account status to post links so if you do an internet search for Proton you should be able to find the Protondb website easily.
