So I just built my new pc and trying to install windows 11 pro from a USB. It gets to 10% then freezes. I tried several times as I reset the pc and still no luck...

Side note....

My case came with 2x headers for usb 3.0 yet my motherboard only has 1 input. How do I get the other 2 usb to work on front panel?

Specs..

Amd 9800x3d
Asus x870 tuff bios 0237 x64 build 07/22/24
Corsair ddr5 32gb x 2 6000
Asus 4090 tuff
Creative a5 soundcard

Which specific MB? Asus has many variations of their  TUF x870 MBs

Your set to run UEFI?

CSM is Off?

TPM turned On in BIOS?

Can you see all hardware & drives in BIOS?

Plug the drive USB 3.0 drive (larger than 8GB) Directly into the back I/O of MB

freezes for how long?  Windows can "look stuck" while it is slowly doing its thing

FWIW:  Remove (disable) all drives besides the OS/ Boot drive .... keeps Win from spreading files across all your drives (that you probably intend to use for storage), can be a real PITA if you remove any of those drives later = Windows Startup errors

When you start the Windows install and you get to the screen that asks you what drive to install to delete every partition on that drive and then select new (this will erase all data on the drive).

I got it sorted out....seems like i did a few things in the bios and when it prompted me which drive, I erased the partitions.....now the only issue I'm having is one of my m.2 is only reading 120gb instead of 4tb....it's Samsung 990 pro. I tried to do something in disk management but still shows 120gb. My next move is to try a different slot.

Lastly, my case has 2x 3.0 headers. I plugged one into my motherboard but I don't know where to plug the other? Right now, only 2 usb work on front of case.

Wheeeeeu, it's been a while building a pc.....lol

Good to see you have made it past the Windows install.

Which of those links helped you the most?

---> Did you /Have you Updated All chipset & then the MB drivers?

Correct (fully) inserted into the M.2 slot is something to check .... with the PC unplugged .... as MB always has some power otherwise

If M.2 is installed correctly time to look at "Disk Management" in Windows

If only 1 USB 3.0 header on MB:
Then you have to choose which two ports on the front of case to use / connect.  Normally you would want to use the ports on the back of the MB for any daily activities; so, 2 ports for thumb drives should be plenty

To be honest, I just went into bios settings and when it prompted me for disk I deleted all partitions....once it went past 10 % I knew i was golden.....
I let windows update do it's thing.....when i get home later, I'm going to make sure MB and chipset drivers are all up to date....will definitely need to see if that drive is seated right....might change locations to see if it works.

I need to see if there is an adapter or plug , maybe a splitter for both headers 3.0.... kinda want all front usb to work on the front panel....

Thank u for all the help!!

Happy to help

I've never used a USB port splitter before, your results - speed / stability might suffer when using more than 2 ports at the same time

My PC shop suggested I use a USB 3.0 adapter to usb 2.0....the speed will be lower but at least they can be used.

As for the m.2 drive that is showing 128gb instead of 4tb, I've tried settings in bios, reseated it, even changed locations in the pc and it still shows up as only 128gb. I've.evem used disk management deleted the drive and reformat it only to show 128gb.

Update:

So I ordered a USB 3.0 19 pin splitter for the front panel.

I removed that other drive showing up as 128gb and bought another samsung 990 pro with heat sink and now it's not showing up in bios or disk management.... might get the pc in to have a look at it...maybe something is missing......??????

Confused

Are you trying to make a RAID setup or just individual drives?

Not showing up in BIOS:
1) turn Fast Boot Off in BIOS if it is on
2) make sure to enable the M.2 Key-M slots in-use

follow any directions from the M.2 Mfg & your Asus MB
