I had decided to skip the Z790 since it appeared a new socket was coming out with Meteor Lake in late 2023 (LGA1851). Now it seems that Intel are having some issues with Meteor Lake development and may not launch any of the Meteor Lake chips until early 2024, and may skip the i9 HEDT Meteor Lake versions altogether!
This would mean the next 'big' HEDT CPU would be Arrow Lake, and that maybe not until H2 2024 if not later - assuming no development issues going forward.
That's a relatively long gap with nothing significant from Intel, and they clearly realized that too, so apparently there is a Raptor Lake refresh on the roadmap due this year (Q3 2023), which will use the same LGA1500 Z790 socket, and probably push the speeds up 100-200MHz from the i9-13900K.
For this reason, I've reconsidered skipping the Z790 and instead will jump in, since it appears it may be good for at least another 18 months.
So EVGA - when are you getting more stock of the Z790 KP Dark??? :)
edit: that refresh apparently is the i9-13900KS, and supposedly being released January 12, 2023...
