there are some nuances between 9 and X that will make it hard to compare experiences 1:1
 
You can request a beta firmware to be sent to your TV, or you can update manually with the correct tools using the engineering menu. The official update will not be pushed until November at the earliest. The update they push out seems to be 4.9, while engineering menu gives access to some version 5 betas.
 
Right now it seems that the updates they push fix the G sync issues with 30 series cards, but may introduce some with 20 series cards that worked fine on the old firmware. I believe this is the reason why they are only pushing it to people who requested it who have 30 series cards in hand.
 
I requested my firmware update over LG chat last week, was told about 5 business days. Still no update on my end as of this morning. They asked for my personal info, as well as my TV serial number and wired mac address. It seems that to push the update they want you connected via ethernet, not wifi.

I will be looking at trying this same 10ft cable soon when my 3090 gets here, fingers crossed that it works out ok here as well. The 6ft cable from Monoprice that everyone recommends I'm sure works fine, but it's just a little too short for what I want it to do unfortunately.

New to this thread, so I’m just starting to explore this with my LG 65C9AUA. Apparently this can support 120Hz 4K G-Sync with a firmware update to 04.90.33. I’m currently at 04.80.03 and I don’t know how to get the required update. Another big problem is my inability to get a 3090 FTW3 Ultra, however I’m hoping my notification will come soon and solve that issue.
 
Will this firmware 04.90.33 update be available online?
 
On the topic of cables, I had a heck of a time getting my 4K UHD player to play HDR content without “sparklies”. The only cable I found that works is a “ECHOGEAR 8ft Braided HDMI Cable - 4k & HDR Compatible” I got from Amazon. It’s supposed to support HDMI 2.1 (48 GBPs), and I can say it definitely solved my sparklies issue. Don’t know if anyone else has tried this cable, but it’s the one I’m going to try when I can get my 3090 and figure out how to update my C9’s firmware...

You have to contact LG and request the beta update. You have to give them your serial number and wired mac address and they'll push the update to you.

I'll add a section in the first post about cable results.   so far I had 5 failed cables, and only 1 working.
 
Please share your specific cables that are working or not working and I'll update the OP.  For it to be "Working" it means ZERO issues. every game works, windows runs 4K full color with 32-bit 10 bpc @ 120hz,  there is never any flicker, all games launch FULLSCREEN and run without issues, artifacts.

I would put another section with the "Mostly Working" title. For example, the 30 foot optical 8k monoprice cable mostly works for me. All I need to do is turn "Instant Game Response" mode off and on before playing a game to get g-sync to work properly, everything else works perfectly fine. And it's the only long optical cable that I found that works that well.

And here I thought I was working around the damn black screen flickering that is getting worse on .26. So, bit of a back story - after updating from .25 to .26 I wasn't getting this issue. Then it started happening only sometimes when I turn the TV on, and I found that turning HDMI UHD Deep Color on and off fixed it, then later I had to do it twice. This morning that didn't work at all, so I tried another suggestion of turning off the Instant Game Response and turning it back on. It still flickered.
 
This might be a byproduct of me starting to run my 3090 working folding@home full time over night - these drivers are still spotty, and I sometimes see that afterburner is all funky town graphics (indicating a driver failed and recovered).
 
Just for shrimp and giggles, I am going to get a new cable to test - I still think that it's a driver and or TV firmware (since .25 worked fine), but it won't hurt to have a second 8K cable.

Dang, that sucks. Thanks for reporting it though. I'll stay on .25 for now then. Maybe things will be better in .27?

Are you using a multi monitor setup? And if so have you tried the nvidia hotfix driver?

I'm going to be trying out these hotfix drivers later tonight. The flickering it mentions might just be the fix I need, since technically my AVR even as an audio source counts as another display:

As a matter of fact I do. I have two ultra wide monitors along with the CX. I'll give the hot fix driver a test in the morning. Thanks for the heads up on this one.

Nope, the hotfix drivers don't fix it for me. It actually seems a LOT worse for me. Hopefully that new cable will be the fix. Ordered that 6ft Monoprice one that was listed as working a few posts up.
 
Edit: Can't get the screen to stop flickering. The menu overlay from the CX flickers as well when I lose video from the PC. Setting 4:2:0 instead of RGB seems to have fixed it. Strangely, setting ANYTHING other than 4:2:0 8 bit will cause the constant flickering as well. I'm really hoping that it's just the Zeskit cable that started not being able to handle 40.1 gbps.
 
Edit: This morning I turned on the CX after having my 3090 crunching folding@home units all night long (left it at 4:2:0 8 bit) and no flickering!. I felt froggy with a new idea, so I moved the Zeskit cable away from power plugs and the 3090 and instead routed it over the top of my big ace computer case and added four EMI chokers. I then set RGB 10 bit (Gsync and HDR were still enabled) and I am NOT getting that constant flickering, or even occasional flickering. So it was EMI that was causing a reduction in the usable bandwidth of the cable - something that could also be fixed by using a $200 fiber optic 2.1 cable, or this $25 Zeskit cable with ~$6 worth of EMI chokers and unsightly routing (which I'll try the old routing with the EMI chokers later).

What is the purpose of this?

I'm waiting for when all the issues are resolved so can unleash the full beauty of the CX.
