I’m guessing it’s because the ftw3 is the only card that has a third header to be able to pull any of this off. They probably didn’t want to have another set of pumps and fans made with different connectors if they wouldn’t work on other cards. It’s probably a lot easier to keep a universal design. I’m willing to bet that if there are more three fan cards in the future they’ll start shipping hybrids with pwm radiator fans and pumps.

I disagree with this logic, their CPU CLC has PWM fans. Besides, PWM fans will work as DC fans if only two wires are connected, which would provide compatibility if the extra header was not available. Even with 2 headers PWM fan would still work great. I just do not see how hard of a decision it could have been to use PWM fans. All wiring and connectors on the Hybrid are 4-pin anyway. This is like buying a million-dollar home with the cheapest Fans/AC. If they wanted to go lean and mean, why even include the fan, just let people install their own. The cover could have had an access door to connect the fan. As a customer, I would feel more respected if the fan was not included than having to deal with replacement. I still love my card, and I have bought another one for SLI, but the fan was replaced immediately.

For those who want to connect their fans to PWM header on the card, be careful opening the cover. It has many screws that are similar size/diameter, but have fine and coarse threads. If the card is new, use sticky protective film (removed from the card) to place screws in order, it would make it much easier to screw them back in:)

This was a great read ! I`ll file this under future projects to do

For those that want to control the radiator fan and pump from the Hybrid card(preferably a FTW3 Hybrid) you can use this guide to remove the shroud. Just start from the end of the guide and work your way back.

Here is a picture of the PCB of the FTW3. A FTW3 Hybrid should be identical.

This connector is for the pump.(Fan 2 Memory) Unplug the pump connector from here and plug it into this connector. Plug the other end of this connector into a fan header on your motherboard. I usually set the pump to 90% in the bios to minimize the pump noise.

This connector is for the gpu radiator fan.(Fan 1 GPU) It is empty on a FTW3 Hybrid. Just plug this connector into the 4 pin header on the pcb and plug the other end into the radiator fan. You can control this fan with Precision or Afterburner based on gpu temperature.

Honestly, these Hybrid card should have shipped this way from EVGA. Pump and rad fan control should be a given considering how much these cards cost.

been a user of Speedfan for years, always pleased with what this little software could achieve in the PCs I was building.

recently bought a FTW 1080 hybrid and decided to plug the Rad fan to my MB PWM header instead of the GPU as it is out of the box

my system went from barely noticeable fan noise at idle to quasi quiet with the fan running at 30%. its Japan summer now and the card sit at 37-38degC at idle and 55degC under heavy gaming

next mod I will try whenever I have time, wishful thinking...., will be the Rad in push-pull to see how low I can get the GPU temps going without adding too much noise to my system

I'm lost here, I would like to know what's wrong with the 1080Ti Hybrid's?....

I have no issues that I know of??. I have the G.P.M set with Fan Curve with EVGA's software and after reading this OP, I just noticed when I click on the (GPU. it reads 0 rpm), (Power. reads 1620 rpm) and the (Memory. reads 0 rpm) Yet the graph shows all are set and profile is saved...

I mostly play BF4 and I have no issues gaming, the highest my GPU get's is in the 40's Celsius and 25C to 19C lowest depending what I'm doing.

Unfortunately, on the Hybrids the only fan you can control is the Power fan. The Hybrid pump is connected to the Memory fan header on the gpu which you have no control over(no rpm reading). The GPU fan header is not even being used, so no obvious control there too(no rpm reading). Not much control at all but it works as intended.

Thank You for the info. I guess I'll just leave it alone and won't update my EVGA POXC software unless I have no other choice.

Ok, I updated the POXC 2.6.7....Now my question is how do I get my OSD to show back on the tray??
