What is a good knife, good question.
I have carried a pocket knife since I was a cub-scout, back then I wore it clipped my belt in school!
Many things to consider choosing a knife.
What will it be used for, under what conditions.
I like a carbon blade, they hold their edge very well and I can hone it to shaving sharp.
Have to keep it clean and oiled or it will rust.
Stainless steel will resist rusting, harder to sharpen, but holds an edge very well.
There are many different steels to choose from. D2, high carbon, Damascus, CV, aus8 and several Chinese blends.
I good knife with have good fit and finish. The back of the blade when open will seamless with the knifes backspring.
Blade centered when closed to avoid the blade being scraped up.
The back spring should make the knife snap when opining and closing. (walk and talk).
The knifes scales should look good and even with all the edges it is near.
Some exceptions, stilettos the scales are bigger than the bolsters.
Like anything else, you want a company that honors their warranty.
Kershaw makes decent lower cost knives in the 20-50$ range.
I carry an Al-Mar Eagle Talon most of the time.
Sometimes my Case stag trapperlock, Kershaw Damascus Leek
Al Mar is AUS8 steel and weighs only 2oz and fit and finish if as good as I ever seen. Made in Japan (good thing)
