Not sure it helps you xfade81 but i followed the guide evga sent with the package (evga support never mentioned this either when asking for a manual so good job once again evga and just pointing to this thread) and it does help lower the temps while running furmark. A side note to evga if you dont know the answer instead of being vague just say you dont know no shame in that instead of having 2 evga representatives say 2 different vague replies.

JayzTwoCents did a video applying TIM to a GPU where he literally slathers it on there, all over the die, all around it, to prove a point. Too much TIM isn't bad (and sometimes good?), while not enough (ESPECIALLY for GPUs) is a big problem.

Heres  a couple of applying tests that were done where they went through many methods and applications and you can see the difference and how many air bubbles form in each instance. Really well done and very informative articles. They are both a little older, but that doesn't change the info at all. Hope that helps the guys that come to this fact page.

Negative ghost rider, EVGA requested people to install these to save shipping. EVGA does not void warranties like other companies do.

I have an SC Black 1070 (no backplate) purchased in March of this year.  It just burned out on me, right on one of the VMRAM slots.  As much as this has been confirmed for the FTW models, I'm several online articles showing the same symptoms on the SC Black which appears to use the reference model PCB.  Can anyone confirm?  I have placed a support request so we will see how that goes.

Very informative.
I've been playing around a lot with this sort of stuff but have been slightly intimidated just because I've never done it before.
So I thank you! This is very helpful and will probably get me to open my GPU up further just to play with it - it's dead anyways.

Apply the pads the same way they come off on the 1080ti FTW3. I say that, because the new thermal pads were don’t before the 1080ti FTW3 came out, so you shouldn’t need to change their positions.

hi all, sorry for my english

my GTX 1070 FTW has already installed this thermal pads ( is it possible that this pad installed in factory ?)

but when i chek my serail number on this site: https://www.evga.com/thermalmod/ it says recommended steps to do
my bios version is  86.04.1e.00.70, proposed bios version is  86.04.50.00.72
If this procedure was performed in the factory ( thermal mod) , why does not have this card new bios
