releasing a Dual socket overclocking board in time for the 6 core Xeons was a no brainer, I am not sure why no other board vendor decided to do it, possibly they dont care as much about Benchmarks as EVGA does You might not be as much of a brand loyalist as many here, but to say other vendors won't do something because they "don't care" is defintely ignorant towards how businesses work. Quite frankly and more than likely, the market for those who want a dual-socket overclockable Intel board is so niche that there is/was only room for one vendor to risk: EVGA. For another vendor to make a equially capable board, there would have to be over twice the available customers for SR-2 (exact double wouldn't support both of them, there needs to be the extra to account for profit margins; plus both businesses will need enough extra to to make it worth the entire exercise, i.e. production run can't be too short.)

about the EVGA SR-2 Dual CPU. is it going make a differents on gaming over a single CPU computer or not.. like the intel SkullTrail or hard to say with the new DX11 games for right now.

Games are not really optimized to run on that many threads/cores. So no games wont benefit really. This is more of a benchmarking/bragging rights board.

Very nice guys.Just wonder how many runs can you get from maxing things out with ln2?Do the chips go bad at some point from being so cold?Sorry but I have never read up on extreme cooling.I am just a room temp water boy myself.

They can go bad if they get condensation. I think if you take care of them then they should be fine no matter how long you use them, and as long as you don't let them cold bug.

The SR-2 has 2 6-core 980X i7s along with having 4 480GTX all overclocked, it's obvious it would break any record by ATI completely stock
A minor correction, but you cannot run 980X on the SR-2.... you need a dual QPI CPU on the SR-2.

you would pretty much get the same score in Vantage due to the PhysX portion being being a CPU benchmark and not that taxing on the GPU leaving most of its resources free to do the PhysX calculations anyway, its only really in games that a dedicated card comes into its own. I guess its possible it may increase the score by a very small amount.
I get basically the same Vantage score using 2 GTX 295's in Quad SLI (overclocked to around 680/1360/1188) with those cards doing both the rendering and PhysX as i do with 2 GTX 295's and a GTX 285 for dedicated PhysX (GTX 285 at stock clocks). I tried the same thing with Cryostasis and using a GTX 285 as a dedicated card with my 2 GTX 295's in Quad SLI gave a 40% increase in FPS compared to running PhysX on the GTX 295's.
Actually the Physx test is normally a CPU test until you enable GPU physx through the Nvidia control panel. Even with 12 threads at that speed the 480 will blow away the CPU at PHYSX computation.... where the cpu scores a physx ops avg of 90... the 480 can most likely double that plus some. so the vantage score would be quite a bit better with physx enabled. but a 5th card dedicated for physx would not at all be necessary as the 4 gpus are not really being utilized as it is not a graphics test so one of the 4 could offload it without much issue.

This doesn't impress me much in that I can't buy such a system and there's so much liquid nitrogen wasted that it's not practical to even build such a system. Now if EVGA were to come up with liquid nitrogen cooling, such that one could snap the delivery devices onto his cpu, memory and the like, and then get a container of nitrogen from a welding house and turn on the container of nitrogen by opening the on valve, the system being designed so that nitrogen is used in small amounts over the course of a game or whatever, then this kind of thing could go mainstream.

I guess I am with the above as well.
When you have unlimited funds (read as - free products), in whatever arena you hobby in (computers, cars, motorcycles, sports, etc.) it is that much easier to accomplish things never done before and to go above and beyond 'records' in that arena.
Mind you, the score is great. Congrats. But the hardware is what should be receiving the praise, imho.

As someone who has done his share of overclocking (I'm not saying I'm uber-elite, just saying I have quite a bit of experience), I gotta say that there is a LOT more to these scores than just the hardware. Believe me, if you got to play with exact same parts, you wouldn't be even close. (Neither would I.) It does take skill.

maybe its just b/c im jaded but if i had cherry picked parts and some ln2 i (or anyone who can oc) could do this no? i just dont see were the skill comes in i guess, patience yes, money yes, time yes, but skill?
