I would like to take this opportunity to remark that it wasn't only the CPU score that was ****Ridiculous, but the Quad-GPU score also beat out the 2x HD5970 ARES card that held the previous record.

Will there be a run with 4 crossfired 2gb HD5870's by chance?

Odds are they wouldn't have gotten any better scores with LHe. The chips would bug and cease to work before you got any advantage from running LHe. The other thing to note here guys is the record was previously held by 4x 5870s, check the link i posted 2 pages ago.

Better yet, they should power with it liquid hydrogen... a little cold fusion should be enough juice right? then they can use the helium it creates and use that to cool it.

jleger4 EVGA_JacobF vsop2k1 So how was the rig cooled? Anyone see that voltage on the cpu, damn thats really smoking. Liquid Nitrogen Its a shame, everyone uses Liquid N2. If they used Liquid He they could have gotten better numbers... The reason that everybody who is a world-class overclocker uses liquid nitrogen is because of its price. Liquid nitrogen costs like $.25-.40 per gallon, where liquid helium costs something like $25-$40 per gallon. Now look at the size of those tanks these guys are running. Presumably it's because they have to buy enough coolant to last them for their entire overclocking even, which could last a couple days. Now, I know that breaking the 3dMark Vantage World Record doesn't have a price tag, but EVGA does have a bottom line to consider. I mean, look at the size of that tank, and they have TWO of them.

EVGA_ShannonR But I also have motherboards still to this day that have been frozen many many times and have yet to have an issue. There's a major difference between running boards through multiple cryogenic runs for a few hours at a time to where they are allowed to heat back up to room temperature in between runs, and having a system undergo a sustained prolonged cryogenic temperature range. The reason I said what I said as many who are new to LN2 ask as if it is just another cooler, they don't know it isn't meant to daily use or longer. I highly doubt EVGA (or any off shelf vendor) overclockable boards are used by scientific community, university or goverment laboratories where maintaining twice the speed of stock with LN2 is commonplace and non-stop. FWIW, it is not that I don't appreciate what these guys do, rather my point is that no one seems interested in endurance runs at such speeds, and others trying to expect such speeds in everyday practical use are dreaming unless they could afford all than LN2.

Too late, too hot, too loud, too power hungry and un-manufacturable i think were the main issues, its possible i missed the "too slow" one . Anyone could see this Record Breaking run coming, its the perks of having a company throwing hardware at you and designing hardware specifically to help you get better benchmarks scores. releasing a Dual socket overclocking board in time for the 6 core Xeons was a no brainer, I am not sure why no other board vendor decided to do it, possibly they dont care as much about Benchmarks as EVGA does and want to know there is also a market for items they design, EVGA is lucky in the fact that it has a fanbase that will pretty much buy anything they release.

That's completely false. Other hardware companies care A LOT about benchmark scores, and other companies do release products specifically designed for overclocking. Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte have all released their "World-Class Overclocking Boards" and sponsor overclocking teams with their hardware. Asus had a big press release after their new ROG Mobo and HD5970 ARES took the Vantage crown. Gigabyte is sponsoring a whole overclocking event on exclusively Gigabyte hardware right now. It just makes sense that these companies all want to compete for the bleeding edge. Being the best in the enthusiast community is great for a company's reputation to innovate and look forward. Also, while it comes as no surprise to anyone anywhere that the 2x-CPU board is beating everything else, you can also look at the GPU scores. All across the board the GTX480 4xSLI configuration is punting the HD5870 QuadFire or HD 5970 XFire configurations by a pretty wide margin.

All across the board the GTX480 4xSLI configuration is punting the HD5870 QuadFire or HD 5970 XFire configurations by a pretty wide margin. I did not say they dont care at all about benchmarks, please read things carefully before replying. I said "possibly they dont care as MUCH about benchmarks as EVGA", what i meant by that is they will make/design overclocking boards that they can sell but they didnt think there was a market for a Dual CPU overcloking board, so they didnt make it, even though it would help break records, EVGA on the otherhand went ahead and made the board for Shamino to break records with and if they sell a few to those EVGA customers who buy just about every item they release then all the better. I am pretty sure ASUS, MSI etc are all capable of making a Dual socket overclocking board and sticking 4 GTX 480's in it along with a couple of 6 cores, i was just giving my opinion why thats possibly has not happened. I love EVGA pushing the features of their boards, there is alot more to the single socket Classified boards than just overclocking but EVGA have started travelling down a road i am not to comfortable with but i am over my "caring about benchmarks/overclocking phase". I am just waiting for them to release the Super Record 4 (SR4) with 4 CPU sockets. other companies make their boards and then give samples to overclockers, all EVGA seem to care about now is overclocking and benchmark numbers. The ASUS R.O.G are gaming boards that happen to have good overcloking potential, they are Republic Of Gamer boards not Republic Of Overclocker/Benchmarker boards. That said i am pretty much in the minority on the EVGA forums, most people on here love anything that will increase the size of the number outputted by a benchmark and will buy anything that EVGA releases.

Nex_Lupus so how bout it shannon and kingpin? the challenge i set out is for you to beat your records unofficially by 4 way sling fermis and putting a fifth in as a dedi physx card and running vantage =D you would pretty much get the same score in Vantage due to the PhysX portion being being a CPU benchmark and not that taxing on the GPU leaving most of its resources free to do the PhysX calculations anyway, its only really in games that a dedicated card comes into its own. I guess its possible it may increase the score by a very small amount. I get basically the same Vantage score using 2 GTX 295's in Quad SLI (overclocked to around 680/1360/1188) with those cards doing both the rendering and PhysX as i do with 2 GTX 295's and a GTX 285 for dedicated PhysX (GTX 285 at stock clocks). I tried the same thing with Cryostasis and using a GTX 285 as a dedicated card with my 2 GTX 295's in Quad SLI gave a 40% increase in FPS compared to running PhysX on the GTX 295's.

dorianmuthig That's totally awesome, but you can't even buy the hardware to try and beat them... that's no fun. :) That's not really the point here. It's like top fuel drag racing. 99.99999% of the world can't buy a nitro burning dragster either. But it is exciting to see what is possible. Also, you could give the same hardware to any 2 guys you can name. They would have a VERY VERY hard time beating the combination of Vince and Peter. It's not just the hardware making the difference in this case. Those are 2 of the best at what they do. I also think I see some Dominator GTs in that record breaking rig

In the upper-right hand corner of the first picture I think I see a red RAM fin sticking out through the white covering.

The SR-2 has 2 6-core 980X i7s along with having 4 480GTX all overclocked, it's obvious it would break any record by ATI completely stock

Moltenlava That said i am pretty much in the minority on the EVGA forums, most people on here love anything that will increase the size of the number outputted by a benchmark and will buy anything that EVGA releases. Actually ML, my post was just in jest. You asked a question in a not so serious manner and I responded w/ a little Charlie quip for my own humour. I probably should have been more clear. In reality, I'm not someone who purchases a product based on benchmarks. I have specific needs/wants and I base my decision on those...not FPS in Crysis. Nvidia has thus far met my needs so I do tend to favour their offerings (especially after finding EVGA). Having said that, benchmarks done w/ what I consider to be way overkill settings doesn't really intrigue me much. Sure, I do poke fun at the Charlie fans who bought into the whole 'too slow' thing (as tunahead put it) when I see threads like these. But really...I'm probably a lot like you...just different needs/wants from my computing. -Fred
