It is about time 60000 was broken...  The old record was with Shamino and 4 x 5870s in Quad-Fire on the 4-way Classified board, wasn't it?

Congrats Shamino!

EDIT: Notice they used "vanilla" 480s :)

I was going to comment on that. 1050 MHZ seems a little low for World Record OC run done on LN2. I remember Shamino posted a thread on here before the official release with a Fermi card at like 1300 MHZ or something like that.

Or maybe they were just testing out the setup, and haven't done a rigorous test of how fast the cards can go.

there is much more to come...

I think theres something to be said that during the tuning session they obliterated the existing record.

Stay tuned

What's the longevity of a system cooled with liquid Nitrogen?  Or at that level of enthusiast, does one even care anymore?
They definitely care, just the point isn't everyday stability.

While there are nitrogen-filled phase change coolers in existence, they are the size of cars and meant for industrial use, i.e. not practical for everyday regular enthusiast use.  When people go for World Record runs with LN2, they use dewars filled with a few gallons and have less than a day (sometimes hours) to do what they do before the stuff evaporates.

Sincs computer are made up of thousands of little parts that are in reality only rated for stock use, running them much faster with more amperage definitely cuts the longivity.  But total lifespan will depend on the weakest part, not the most robust.  Mathematically, we can say 9 months minimum (as lifespan is porportional to frequency increase squared again the warranty period), but realistically I wouldn't say longer than just one month, maybe a matter of weeks before some part fails.  It could be a trace or capacitor on the motherboard.

Note, long before physical damage, something will get corrupted and data will be lost.  It's the whole reason we do stress test like 95 or LinX -- no one does this for WR runs, there isn't enough cryogenic for it.  And what would be the point?  Many folks here assume if their overclock can withstand a whole day of 100%, then they call it stable -- it isn't in reality, it will eventually kick, earlier than if left alone.  They just don't care using the justification they'll upgrade before it happens.  But the higher you crank it, the lifespan drops considerably.  The point for these benchmark runs is to be stable long enough to grab numbers or verification, the system may not endure 100% load on all CPU cores or GPUs to max for hours longer than necessary.

Take an auto analogy, there are speed limits and many people speed.  But not many will run their car's engine into redline breifly enough to brag and survive.  If you blow the engine you're not going to have much to say, if you survive.  I think few have died while overclocking (like electrocution), but if the system blows (like a short or bad batch reaction), that's thousands of dollars/euro down the drain.  So they definitely care about that investment, they don't pour the stuff and hope for the best.  They know what their doing.  Shamino for instance is an electrical engineer, IIRC, he helped EVGA make the SR-2.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

while this can be true,  for the most part if a component fails obviously it can fail.

But I also have motherboards still to this day that have been frozen many many times and have yet to have an issue.

alot of boards will die due to condensation,  or just overvolting causing degradation or just overall component failure.

It all depends on the quality of components used which is why you will see most of the records out there have been made on EVGA hardware.

With top quality components and some of the most talented overclockers and enthusiasts at its employee it should be of no surprise as to why our boards are the pick of most of the top overclockers

I wonder how fast the score is broken after the rest of the world has the ability to buy the same hardware. nice scores but who else can even try to beat them? ie: we can't buy a sr-2 mb :(

Who would have guessed that 4 GTX 480's on a Dual CPU motherboard using 2 6-cores would have broken the 3D Mark Record... yawn.

The score is very nice, but i am inclined to agree,

PSU: 1000 watt Corsair
CPU: i7 950 @ 4.3 ghz
CPU COOLER: Noctua nh-d14
GPU: Galaxy 480 @ 900 core 2100 mem
CASE: Custom Made

MOBO: Evga Classified x58 760
HARD DRIVE: 1TB WD Black
DISK DRIVE: Blu Ray

The word NVIDIA is a mixture of n —a mathematical variable meaning "to the highest degree"— and video —which comes from Latin videre, "to see"—, implying "the best visual experience."

Probably to keep it linked to the CPU, more stability.
