I hate to have extra software for fan control, especially I use multiple OS and it just pain in ass to set up fan control for multiple environment.

What extra software do you use? I just got my SC17 and it throttles fairly bad, but its dead silent while overheating. I would really like to use the fans.

Precision Mobile is the "extra software". It should have came with your EVGA laptop.

I'm trying to get it myself. I don't have it ever since I did the fresh windows install on my brand new laptop. EVGA support told me that was the fix for the awful graphical errors(spoiler alert, its not!!!) Now my fans just never turn up at all. I tried to redownload the Precision Mobile software, but it just crashes instantly. So basically I have a brand new gaming laptop that I cant game on because it just thermal throttles super hard after about 5 minutes. Albeit quietly:(

    first thing first.

I have posted temp fix for artifact issue on this forum so you can fix that issue if you follow the direction.

    secondly,

precision x mobile requires "visual studio 2013 redistributable", just google it and install it.

evga's factory fan curve doesnt really kicks in until last minute(like around 85c) i mean I kinda like it because I bought this as portable workstation not gaming one.

I unlocked the Bios on my SC17 1080, not sure if the fan settings in the Bios actually changes anythings because sometimes it is controlled by the EC firmware.  When I get around to it, I will let you know if it works from within the Bios.

Thank You so much!!! Finally I got my fans working again thanks to the visual studio thing. I'm still working on the display issue, but I'll get into that in your other thread.

He is using a modified BIOS interface. He said that he will let you know if the modified version he is using allows fan speed adjustments.

I just started to use the laptop, and the fan is constantly running, even when i'm not doing anything heavy. This is very annoying ! I expect this well designed gaming laptop to have better cooling design, thus should run silent when not gaming. as i'm typing, CPU temp is only 39, and GPU 40. this should be cool enough to put the fan to low spin.

Am I the only one having this problem?

Most gaming desktop replacement replacements notebooks have the fan running all the time at a low RPM.  My Alienware 17 R4 that I sold was the same.  But yes, I agree that it would be nice to be able to adjust in the fan control the lowest setting which is fixed at 30%.  That being said, the fans don't bother me as much as the intense coil whine I have on my SC17 1080, really annoying.

My bad, the lowest fan settings can be adjusted in fan control in precision software....just use the second point to set the temperature and lower fan speed with the arrows keys.

The fan control settings are hidden in the BIOS, but they can be unlocked if you modify the bios and flash the modded bios.  The Fan settings, when unlocked in the Bios, do work just like in the precision x mobile software.  However, I do not recommend attempting flashing a modded Bios because it can potentially brick the machine, void the warranty and or damage components if some other settings are messed with incorrectly.  So this is mostly to say that it wouldn't be hard for EVGA to release a Bios with the fan settings options unlocked.

I have the SC17 1070 and I can confirm with an unlocked bios and when you enable fan control option in the bios it works and stays on the settings you put after a system restart.

Hey Guys, I've installed BIOS 1.03 on the 1070 Gsync model and just registered today to get the mobile x software (got rid of W10 and installed W8.1) and the "FAN CONTROL" button is grayed out. "FAN BOOST" is there, but that's max I believe at slightly over 4K RPM. Does anyone know if it's possible to set a RPM speed with the "FAN CONTROL" button, like setting the fan speed to 2.3K RPM? When does the "FAN CONTROL" button become enabled? I clicked all 4 options (custom->downclock) and no change. Also, on the Precision Mobile X Software, there's a translucent overlay of "BIOS Preset" When I first got the laptop, on BIOS 1.01, the fans would jump up and down in speed even when just opening firefox, however with 1.03, like when playing GTA V, the fans never seem to go on, and the temps do get toasty, all in the 70's (PCH/CPU and GPU)

The fan control button is grayed out while using a BIOS OC Profile (Normal, Superclocked, or Custom). But, if you create a new Custom Windows profile in PrecisionX Mobile (on the left by selecting Custom1, for example), the fan control button becomes available. Just set up Custom1 to be the same as your preferred BIOS OC profile, click apply, and then click the fan control button. Create a fan profile, but the fan profile is forgotten each time the laptop restarts. Shame.

Thanks ty_ger07, that worked! I didn't see the Custom[n] buttons, as they didn't show, they were black. Clicking in that area, each individual area then showed each button. That stinks, hopefully they will fix that in 1.10, thanks again!

It would be nice also for the customized fan option be linked to each custom profile as well, to have a more agressive fan profile when overclocking, and a more silent fan profile when downclocking, for example.  Also, of course, that these fan profiles be saved even after a restart.
If someone wants to control the fan profile through the bios, in the meantime, and are aware of the flashing risks, pm me for instructions.

As has been reported, the fan curve configuration is built into the BIOS, can be edited, and works correctly.  Unfortunately, EVGA has disabled it in the BIOS so that it normally doesn't appear to users.

Hopefully EVGA will give users access to this handy feature.  I don't know why they haven't.  At this point, to unclock the hidden feature, you have to use AMI BIOS Configuration Program to edit the ROM; and probably void your laptop's warranty if you mess it up.

i am really hoping they will give it in the next bios update or at least make PXM fan profile remember the fan curve.

The bios unlock would be extra handy considering the current bios v1.0.7 paired with precision x mobile freezes the laptop requiring a hard restart. SMH c'mon evga this is a 2500$ laptop not a damn acer, get your stuff together. i now have no way to turn up the fans when gaming.

I can help with 'sthat if you understand the risks, there is always a possiblity of bricking the machine if there ia a bad flash......this from our own flash or from the manufacturer.  Risk however is low, when done correctly, following instructions exactly.

I can help with 'sthat if you understand the risks, there is always a possiblity of bricking the machine if there ia a bad flash......this from our own flash or from the manufacturer.  Risk however is low, when done correctly, following instructions exactly.

I still have faith that EVGA will give it to us ? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The bios unlock would be extra handy considering the current bios v1.0.7 paired with precision x mobile freezes the laptop requiring a hard restart. SMH c'mon evga this is a 2500$ laptop not a damn acer, get your stuff together. i now have no way to turn up the fans when gaming.el

I do appreciate the offer, and i may take you up on it sometime in the near future. I will give evga some time to fix the mess they created before i take actions that would possibly void my warranty. Thanks for your response!

I just wrote a post about unlocking the BIOS for SC15 v1.06 and it should be applicable to SC17 v1.07.

The fan curve control will be under "Advanced" once "Hide Item" is switched off.
