I think I'll wait another 3 years and see what happens.  Are any passwords safe anyhow? No mater how long or how convoluted a password is there's software to crack it. Or the sites just give it away... like Equifax Inc.

I hate to say as an imigurian, it really doesn't matter to me. They can steal my fake internet points. There is zero PII on that website. I can see they probably hacked it to get all the photos that are unlisted and probably "risque" to put it mildly.

I know they get away with it but it would be nice if we had some kind of consumer protection law that required hacked companies to notify users within a timeframe to protect them.

Don't worry I got a great password from the movie Spaceballs. Being a random 80's movie nobody would ever guess it... 
Ooof! That doesn't sound like a good password. Either a phrase -- no matter how uncommon or complex -- or combination of common words -- no matter how insensible -- are unwise choices for a password. See above. From a movie? That would definitely not be considered uncommon or complex. If any of the millions and millions of passwords which have been leaked in the large data dumps matches your password or is similar through interchange, your password could be cracked the next "hack" within minutes. My master password for unencrypting my password manager is greater than 20 characters long and contains random characters which I have memorized. Within my password manager, each account has a different password of random characters greater than 12 characters long.

+1.... I do the same thing tyger, usually 16-22 characters with caps also because at that point the time it would take even a distributed cluster to crack them would be too long to bother with. If someone cant crack it within a couple days at most they move on. Without the password manager I would be lost though, lol.

I'm curious about the security behind password managers whether stand alone programs, or services. It seems like this would be a jackpot to hack if its a service.
Even if its a stand alone program, it would create a nice concise target.
I'll have to look into it some more. I am sure someone on here has already done some of that research.

This was many years ago, I guess they locked themselves out of their own database or something, only happened the one time, just bad timing for me as they auto-forced p/w changes every so often. Funny looking back at it though.

Password managers are very secure. At least the reputable ones are. For instance, the Lastpass service has been hacked and gained access to at least once in the past but nothing interesting was stolen. The theory behind password managers is that everything in your password vault is encrypted by your master password; so as long as your master password is a strong password, all they can obtain is a scrambled mess which they will never unscramble. And every user is unique with a completely different challenge associated with hacking into their vault; unless, of course, some users happened to choose the same master password. It's quite exactly like changing all of your passwords for all your accounts to unique random gibberish which you will never remember, saving that gibberish in a text file on a USB stick since you aren't able to memorize it, and then encypting that text file with a long secure password which no one is likely to figure out. When the thief steals your USB stick, assuming that the encryption used is good and assuming that there are no hash collisions, good luck. Except with a password manager, you have that safe vault of passwords available at multiple places to which you aren't likely to lose access. Been using keepass for years now. I don't know what I'd do without it since I have like 1325135135 computer accounts and it's how I access anything any longer. Have it on the PC and phone.
