Got lucky and scored a slick browser refresh before the stock checkers got it and got myself a i9-9900k in the mail. Getting ready to finalize the rest of the build.

I was planning to pair it with the EVGA Z390 FTW board but noticed that it has a single 8pin EPS connector. I've seen mixed reviews of power consumption but a handful show the chip alone drawing near or exceeding 250w when overclocked.

To my understanding an 8pin connector gives 235w, so I guess how much power from the board itself gets allocated to the CPU from the main board power connector? And is that enough extra juice for this chip?

When I have Two EPS Connectors on a Motherboard I connect them Both.
Sometimes Two 8-Pin and sometimes One 8-Pin and One 4-Pin.
It is not going to hurt anything have both connected.

One EPS is more than enough. With a good PSU and cable/connection you're good up to about 300W and the only way to draw anything close to that on a 9900k is with exotic sub-ambient cooling. The CPU will thermal throttle even on water before you get anywhere close to that.

That said, it wont hurt anything. It won't help either.

A single 8-pin eps is rated for 235w with a peak of 336w under perfect conditions. Not sure how much the cpu will draw from the 24-pin.

This is the kind of answer I was looking for. Obviously the PC will likely never even need 235w, my concern was the "if it actually does"... It's nice to know there is a peak over the "rated".

    Thank you Sajin.

Question is does EVGA split the sockets / VRM power phases. Or are they running the sockets in parallel and all phases draw from a unified power plane?
