Curved monitors are popular for sim gamers (Flight Sim, Racing sims, etc.) for more immersion. For myself, I don't see the appeal. Absolutely in love with my LG 27". Barely use my older TV in the basement now.

3440x1440 curved monitors have come down in price a lot over the past 4 years. If you can find one on sale for less than $400-500 and it has Freesync, I encourage you to give it some thought. Modern open-world games like Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, and (don't laugh at me) Mass Effect Andromeda look beautiful in ultrawide, and the curve adds immersion.

Have never been a fan of the curved.  I use my monitor for non-gaming activities as well and they just feel off, not worth the immersion IMO.

I'm looking to get either the LG 27GL850-B ($450) or LG 34GP83A-B ($1k). I'd like to get ultrawide but just doesn't seem worth it at those prices. This would also be my first 1440p monitor (currently on 1080 240hz).

I might even start looking at 240hz 1440p monitors. I love my frames.

On Reddit everyone is crazy for the 27GL850-B. I've never seen a negative comment about it. I am cheap so I ended up with a Dell S2719DGF, but in the $400-$500 price range the LG 27GL850-B is worthwhile.

i have a acer 27 inch gaming monitor 144 hz isp display i think its 4 ms responce time. im very pleased with it and in codmw i avg 146 to 225 fps mostly around 180 fps. im running a ryzen 5 3600 and a evga rtx 2080 ti xc ultra. i play in 1440p resolution. would a 240 hz monitor be worth the money and im also looking at the ryzen 9 5950 soon to push some more fps. any opinions please and is 1080p better.

1080p doesn't look as nice but it will give you more FPS, for that competitive edge. Also, aim for a 1ms response time if possible.

I'm on a 3080 and 5600x and a 280hz 1080p monitor. I'm all about getting that competitive edge.

Higher resolution like 1440p is more eye candy if you like that kind of thing.

this is what i have now and its great but since i get around 180 to 200 fps in codmw and 120 to 140 in warzone i was wondering a 240 hz or better would be worth it.

I can tell you that my wallet feels the difference between what a 144hz and a 300hz costs though.  I'd just research which monitor does the best at combatting eyestrain.  if you user your computer as much as me, that's probably the better investment.

 eyestrain

Usually caused by not configuring the monitor properly, such as using the default eye burning brightness in a not well lit room. Bias lighting also may help.

PWM flicker may cause issues for some people, but nowadays most of the new monitors are flicker-free.

After 144hz I feel like it's just diminishing results personally. Get at least a 144hz monitor with an advertised 1ms response time. If you'd like to go the 1080p route, I'd highly suggest the AOC 24g2, it's usually out of stock, but for $180 you get 144hz, IPS Panel(great viewing angles, and good color accuracy), 1ms, etc. If that's not in stock for $180 I'd recommend the BenQ EX2510, it's another 144hz 1ms IPS monitor bought it for myself, and it's really great, the only complaint I have is that the out-of-place orange accent ruins the look of the monitor a little.

does anyone here actually have or has used the benq xl2546k ? I'm looking to buy that and could use some feedback from an owner's perspective. Supposedly it's the best 240hz 1080p monitor out there but the price is kind of steep.

Well, i went to the Alienware AW3821DW from my AOC 2367F and to say the change was jarring is a understatement. So i was able to step up my card and had to go back to my old GTX780 and AOC monitor while i wait and i cant tell you how disappointing that was. What to get really depends on the games you play all the time and what you can afford within reason.

If you have a 1440p 27 inch with 144 Hz I don't think you should go to 240Hz unless you are an aspiring professional shooter gamer. From 60 to 144 yeah that is a difference. From 144Hz to 240Hz not that huge. I think you should be more invested in getting a higher minimum FPS, by upgrading your hardware. IF you are super competitive you can go 360Hz, from 144 Hz to 360Hz there is a difference, but not as big as from 60 to 144.

I picked up a cheaper 1440 monitor- kinda wishing I'd looked into it more and bought a better one, maybe waited for the AOC one I've seen recommended a lot.
