Wasn't quite sure where to put this. Anyway it randomly popped up in my Google feed and I was amused by it. Apparently Intel is looking to do some pcie gen 4 SSD stuff and that means they need AMD CPU's to test. https://www.techspot.com/...sds-but-needs-amd.html

It's not really a surprise since imagine they didn't test the SSD with AMD CPU's and all the sudden they find out the drives go to market with a flaw when used with an AMD system.  It's simple product testing that they probably do with AMD chipsets and PCI-3.0 drives. It's like saying that a game with a NVIDIA way it's meant to be played logo got tested to run on AMD graphics cards or maybe even has a AMD graphics card listed on the minimum system requirements.

It wasn't about needing to test compatibility with AMD, it was that they apparently need AMD systems because there's no Intel systems that support PCIE Gen 4 right now, and they're looking to develop some PCIE Gen 4 stuff.

Hilarious .  I am just imagining the Intel sales rep calling up over to his rival rep at AMD  ,

" hey dude, can we get a few samples of your latest processors/ boards over here to run some state-of-the-art testing ? Our stuff isn't able to do that yet ..."

Aw another person who sees/understands the real reason why AMD is needed. I applaud you for your comments and honesty on the topic.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

yawn .... OK, so you need to test with a PC that supports the feature your testing your SSD to support

Just write the CAR & order the parts no biggie.

The best part about this is seeing that:

    1) Intel wants to Boost the performance of their SSD products to keep/ gain market share

    2) Intel does not have PCIe 4 planned for release any time soon ... no prototypes for the SSD group to use ... no surprise there

Wow, imagine writing an article and genuinely believing that Intel can't come up with a test bench to mimic their next-next gen architecture that will eventually be released with Gen 4 or 5 PCIe.

Meanwhile Intel have been selling PCIe 3.0 8x AIC based SSD's for years and offer one that actually saturates it's link speed:

Meanwhile Intel's 2+ year old Optane 900P (I have one) is still the fastest overall desktop drive in the wild, including Gen 4.0 drives:

if I was making a SSD with the Target Market being those who owned AMD based PC ... I'd test on the Same platform & not a cobbled together prototype

Their target market isn't AMD customers, at all.  Its datacenters running upcoming Xeon Ice Lake servers with PCIe 4.0 in mid-late '20.  One of these drives costs more than most X570 builds.

Not to mention, the original tweet is being egregiously misrepresented.  Any next gen PCIe 4.0 Optane drive will run just fine on PCIe 3.0 and be faster overall than any current consumer drive on the market - on straight PCIe 3.0 4x.  For all we know he could be sending him an AIC drive that runs in 8x or even 16x.

"would you like to test on gen2 pcie 4 capable optane ssd to see your code's potential? Then I can set that up for you. Send me a private email when you are ready..."

I don't find this problematic or a big deal.  Just testing out on another platform.  I'm sure the AMD elfs help AMD do the same in their corporate basement.
